  • Exhaust Tips

My exhaust tips look like they were never cleaned by the previous owner and was wondering what is the best method to use to get the shine back? I'm pretty sure they are chrome on the inside because the coating seems to be pitted and starting to peel off along with the carbon that is baked on. I don't think they will never be completely perfect but I just want to get them as clean as I can. Any help would be much appreciated!

If you don't have a metal polish, M105 works amazing too; that stuff can be used for so much its ridiculous.

I've never gone above #0000 steel wool, but yeah, one of the polishes mentioned above and the wool, and should be pretty good pretty quickly.

Any OTC product should work pretty good. The Meguiars offering would be the ideal choice I would imagine.

I have heard some here mention Bar Keepers friend cleaner/polish. You may have some under your kitchen sink. It's powder form, shake onto a wet sponge and less than 2 bucks at the supermarket in the cleaning isle.

Never personally used it however, but if its under your sink and it works, you can buy yourself another MF towel.

If you don't want to worry about having to constantly clean the insides, you could always paint them black with hi-temp paint. Here is information about how I did mine: http://home.comcast.net/~rwkeating/a...aexhaust3.html They still look good after more than 3 years although the paint isn't as smooth as it was originally, but at least it is still all black inside there.

I ended up ordering the Heavy Cut Polish last week and it will finally be arriving this afternoon. If I have time tonight I'll polish them up and post the after pictures.

Tried using some Comet which is essentially the same product and it did seem to help a little bit. I think this will be a great product to use to keep the tips clean after they have been polished with the heavy cut polish. Thanks for the tip!

This is the result after cleaning up with Meguiars Heavy Cut Metal Polish and 0000 Steel Wool. Although the chrome coating is peeling off these products did a wonderful job getting all of the carbon off of the tips.
