  • Black car has dark spots after using #7 and Goldclass carnauba

First off I know the splotchy spots are my doing. Just wondering how to correct and what not to do to cause this again. It's just the hood and trunk. First claybared, then went over with 205 using a DA. Then hand applied the #7 and then hand applied the Goldclass carnauba.

I noticed in certain angles you can see darker spots in the paint, like I did not get good coverage or that the product was thicker in some spots. I can tell you that I went over the entire panel then removed the #7 before moving on. Thanks for advice.

Was it there before the wax? Or only noticed after the wax?

Could be you applied the wax thicker, didn't fully dry there.

Usually a QD, spray wax, or the next wash will solve it.

It sounds like a combination of 2 factors... there were still polishing oils left behind from the Meg's 205 and 7 and humidity that prevented the GC from drying properly.

Doing a layer of #7 by hand was redundant, as I find 205 to finish quite nicely.

Next time you do the car, do a wipedown with IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol, not India Pale Ale ) to remove any leftover polishing oils and allow the GC to haze completely if there is a lot of humidty. Personally I prefer Meg's #21 Synthetic Sealant topped with #26 as my LSP's... much more durable than GC.
