  • ''Quick detail'' question

After reading some posts I'm in dilemma... I try to explain why:

When I detail my car I go by this procedure:
    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. Cleaner wax (red bottle)
    4. Ultimate liquid wax or NXT 2.0.

I'm confused if I use Cleaner wax and later I put ULW will I lose on durability of ULW?
Because Cleaner wax is based on carnauba and I know it worn off after 2-3 weeks after application and now topping with sealant maybe
    is not best choice (?).
My car is white and I think I need this cleaning step before ''real'' wax but I'm not sure if this is best way to go.

You might think about skipping the cleaner wax and just use an all in one (AIO) like White Wax. White Wax has cleaners, a little polish, and synthetic polymers. Depends on how much cleaning ability you need

NXT and Ultimate last longer than White Wax though. If you want to use one of them you might consider using Ultimate Compound for step 3. You might as well use up the cleaner wax though if it's providing the cleaning you need.

      Thx for replay,
you introduce white wax but it is exactly same dilemma with it as I wrote above (do we lose durability of ULW if we put layer before some ''less powerful'' wax).

        Re: ''Quick detail'' question

Applying sealant on top of wax is not recommended, mostly due to removal of wax during application of sealant, thus "wasting" the wax.
Haven't seen any statistics on durability.

This is interesting point what you say: ''removal of wax during application of sealant'' this is something I'm not so sure about it (maybe for NXT 2.0).
If we agree with this statement then there is no losing on durability...

The A12 Cleaner/Wax is an AIO.

Aside from that though, rubbing a liquid over a surface with an applicator will have some cleaning affect. How much it removes, or mixes together, who knows.

Certainly havent seen any bad results from ColorX followed by Ult. Wax.... probably not a big enough difference to worry about. Esp if one is going to use something like the Ult. Quick Wax after washing as well.

I'm not sure if we aren't getting same dilemma of durability topping ColorX with ULW.
(we now already introduce ColorX after white wax we are going out of topic).

^ Not necessarily.... I could be wrong but both Cleaner Wax and ColorX are a mix of synthetic polymers and wax.

I don't think so... we have to think about some test to see what is happening here because I'm sure with this procedure we are losing durability.

"Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax - Introduced in 1973 as Meguiar's first consumer market product, Cleaner Wax has a track record more than a quarter century long of producing excellent results on finishes in fair to good condition. Meguiar's Cleaner Wax is a combination of non-abrasive chemical cleaners, rich conditioning oils and synthetic polymers, silicones and waxes; all ingredients for long lasting paint protection. The chemical cleaners in Meguiar's cleaner wax will clean and remove light oxidation, pore-embedding stains, built-up road grime, and air-borne contaminants. The trade secret conditioning oils will rejuvenate your paint, restoring the paint's original oils lost over time, resulting in a darker, more clear finish. The synthetic polymers, waxes and silicones will seal the paint, locking in the rich conditioning oils and protect the finish against corrosion, oxidation, chemical attack, and the detrimental effect caused by day-in, day-out driving and exposure to the environment. Widely available and very inexpensive, Cleaner Wax is available in 16 ounce liquid and 11 ounce paste formats and can be applied by hand, orbital or D/A polisher."

"I know that the protective characteristics in ColorX come from synthetic polymers and carnauba wax."

Yea you are right it is mix... but do we influence with carnauba part on durability...
