I use a regular terrycloth towel in a bucket of water, wrung out, to wipe down a panel, then dry it off with another similar towel. I'm I creating scratches using terry instead of microfibre? I tried microfiber but they are not as absorbant as terrycloth and are not big enough to do a good job.

Re: What towels to use to wipe down car beteen washings?
Meg's MFT's are great. And work is all situations I've used them in. Rinsless Wash. Wiping down anything.
You have something eles going on here.
What exactly are you trying to do?
Just wipe off dust?
Are you trying to do a rinseless wash with water only? That 's not going to work.
You need product to do these things ie: Detail Spray/Rinsless Wash.

I like to use a quality microfiber, usually wet down and rung out leaving it damp. Then follow up with my favorite spray wax - style product and a clean, dry microfiber to ensure no spots. I wouldn't use terry either, I feel as if microfiber will help lift the contaminants away better than sliding them around like terry might.Everybody digs a nice clean car.

@atikovi I'm still a huge fan of the Wash&Wax Anywhere and the Quik Detailer alongside a MFT. I definitely agree with @pleasewashmedetailing, those terry towels have got to go. I love Meguiar's MFT's, but on the off chance you're looking for something with a little more water pickup-ability (new word), I do have a Chemical Guys' Wooly Mammoth MFT on hand.--
