  • New car, what sealant should I use?

    Hi,

getting a new car and I want to "seal" it in good shine. It will be a daily drive.
wash it , dry it and apply #21 is a good choice? [B]M21 Mirror Glaze

    I would consider:

    1 Wash
    2 Clay
    3 ColorX or White wax
    4 #21 or Ult Wax

Try using NXT Wax, make sure car is super clean, lay a thin coat, let it cure for 20 minutes, you get a great shine and a lot of protection.
It's all I use on my customers cars.

Sorry to sound dumb. I'm no pro detailer.
I always have problem with the sequence. Isn't #21 a synthetic sealant?

I should wash and clay, then

          1. I should wax the car first and then put #21 on?
          or
          2. I should put #21 on and then wax?

21 is synthetic sealant (pro version of NXT basically).

Sealant and wax perform same basic function, protect the paint. Syn Sealants last longer than wax.

If you layer wax ON TOP of syn sealant, it is done for personal preference and the wax doesn't last nearly as long as the sealant. Layering wax over sealant is usually only done on dark vehicles.

Put the 21 on you should be happy with that. Long lasting is good for a daily drive.

What color is your car btw?

White. I guess wash/clay to make sure it is clean. Dry it and then #21.

                Sounds like a good plan.

I'm a strong advocate for claying the new car and I also usually recommend Ultimate Wax. It's usually available locally at a variety of stores. Meguiar's indicates it also has, under a given set of conditions, the best longevity of it's wax products. In my opinion Ultimate Wax is a good choice for daily drivers. That is not to say M21 is a bad choice.

Yes, clay the car first, for me I wouldn't even bother checking the paint for contaminants since most of the time "new cars" are parked and collecting all types of contaminants, so I'd just go and clay the car. For white paint, I'd go the NXT 2.0 route, but on a well prepped paint, it's nearly impossible to see the differences between the different sealants/waxes.

While researching M21 I read of a few people liking the look with M21 that is topped with ultimate liquid or paste. Just another option to think about.

But Ultimate is more durable than M21 or any other wax megs has to offer, so if it were up to me, I'd just apply 2 coats of Ultimate Wax. Lots of options here...
