wax or no wax on chrome wheels?

I just completed a hot wheels clean followedby a chrome polish on my chrome wheels. They Werent in bad shape to begin with, but I just bought a used escalade and I wanted to freshen it up.
My question is, is it necessary to wax the chrome after the polish? Or does the chrome polish have some protection built in? I have have heared both that wax comes right off of wheels due to brake dust vs folks that say that they wax weekly or the chrome polish will dull.
Can someone seperate fact from fiction for me? Thanks

Dont have to.

If you want easier cleaning, the BrakeDust Barrier would be a good product to look at. And more durable than the waxes.

You've already got some time and effort involved, so don't stop now. Getting some protection on your wheels is the best thing you can do to make life easier in the future. As Murr stated, BDB is the longest-lasting product, but even a coat or two of a good sealant will prevent road dirt and brake dust from sticking, making future cleanings much easier. My personal preference is for Collinite, but Ultimate Wax is also a good choice. It's true that the combination of heat and brake dust will degrade a sealant on wheels faster than the same sealant on a fender or hood, but a good sealant will still protect much better and longer than a typical chrome polish. I've had a couple German cars in the family fleet, which are known to be the worst as far as brake dust. Keeping them protected regularly with a coat or two of sealant reduces wheel maintenance to simple washings with the same media used on the rest of the vehicle.

While you do not have to wax these wheels following a good cleaning and polish, there really is no down side to doing so. The fastest and easiest way to put down a good polymer sealant on them would be to use our Ultimate Quik Wax. Just spray it on and wipe it off - couldn't be any easier. It won't stand up to Hot Wheels Chrome Wheel Cleaner due to the very aggressive nature of that product, but a subsequent application every time you clean the wheels is very quick and easy to do.

Brake Dust Barrier is great stuff, but it can be a touch finicky to apply to chrome and we'd hate to see you alter the appearance of the chrome wheels from even a slightly improper application. Really the worst thing that can happen with a proper application is a slight reduction in gloss from the chrome, but since it sounds like you're going for the best shine you can get here, we would actually skip BDB on these wheels and stick with UQW. BDB is fantastic on painted wheels as it doesn't exhibit this potential for gloss reduction on painted surfaces compared to chrome.

Put some NXT wax on those babies, you get a very good shine with a lot of protection.
Just make sure you allow it to cure for 20 minutes.
You'll notice how easy they will be to clean the next time

Im not too big on spray on waxes.

I use D156 Express Wax on all my customers cars. UQW is the same thing so defiantly try that every time you wash.
I love Break Dust Barrier to but the finish isn't perfect but it's a great product.

Well, this was not he case in my experience. I waxed my chrome wheels once, and will never do it again. The thin film of wax seemed to attract brake dust and whatever, like a magnet, and it was extremely difficult to remove the dirt/wax once I realized the mistake. Polish but do not wax, would be my recommendation.

Yes sir I am. Born, but not raised. But that place is a gold mine and hidden gem for vacation. Glad u have been able to endulge

Well thx again for the feedback. I am pretty torn, so I suppose I will give the NXT 2.0 a try and monitor how it repels or attracts dust and road cr@p. If it doesn't work out, I will clean and reapply without the wax step. I really don't mind putting it the work (on the initial 2 to 5 step whether its wheels or paint). I just want to invest in the method that best protects the hours spent and that which also requires the least maintenance in between washes.

Yes it is a hidden gem. My ex gf was born there and had to move here cuz of the war. I vacationed there once. Loved it so much. I stayed in Granada. I took her family out for dinner one night and payed like a total of $10-15 dollars for 13 people to eat. Money goes a long way there. Even came back with my daughter in her moms belly lol.
