  • Need Help fixing a mistake

Hello everyone. I found this board and products through a google search on how to fix my clear coat. I have a brand new Toyota Sienna, last week a hub cap flew off the car in front of me and hit my bumper, hood and flew over the car. The bumper had 2 small deep cuts and a scuff, the hood has a small chip on the nose of it that I was going to hit with touch up paint. My problem is I used turtle wax rubbing compound that the auto parts store clerk recommended to me. The scuff came out and the chips are there but not bad but now the spots lost their shine. They look like they are dulled out. I went back and the guy told me use a turtle wax but it still didn't work. Can anyone help me on how to correct this? I am so upset my brand new bumper looks old already

    Thanks

    Vic

The TW rubbing compound is effectively like sand paper, so need something milder or follow up, or a product that finishes off milder.

For just a small spot, you could look at the ScratchX 2.0.

And using a smooth foam applicator, or other gentle applicator so that the applicator isnt being more aggressive.

Start off mild/gentle, work up in passion if needed.

      Vic-

Your biggest mistake was asking the store clerk for a recommendation. Don't freak out, you came to the right place. You need to post photos so others more expert than I can offer you recommendations. Upload them to the web somewhere safe and then "insert image" using the URL's for the photos.

And I would take that rubbing compound back for a refund.....he gave you in-correct advice.

          First off WELCOME TO MOL!!!!

Don't worry we'll help you fix it.
The TW is fine the clerk gave you what he thought would work.

You now need to get rid of the compound marks, so I can recommend Ultimate Polish.
Get a nice Micro Fiber Towel and polish up those marks. I use "strokes" and not circles when working by hand. This will give you the results your looking for but might take some time, don't give up it's fixable.

          Posting pics will help.

usually easiest to upload the pics to your gallery here, then use the 'insert image' icon, and copy/paste the link from the gallery.

Should be a easy fix using UP if you had a DA.

I just received my ultimate polish and microfiber towels in the mail. It says apply with a foam applicator pad which I don't have. I will run out and buy one and give it a shot. Do you think I should polish the whole bumper or just the small spots that are dulled?

                    Thanks
