need help with brake dust

I have a 2009 BMW with stock rims, unfortunately I have neglected cleaning the inner part of the rim and the brake dust seems to be baked on there. I used the all wheel cleaner which got some off but not all. I use a kitchen sponge to clean the rims. Is there a better method or cleanser for the rims. I heard wheel brightener is good but idk what to use. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I've had success with all-purpose cleaners and a wheel brush. Might take a couple of goings-over. I've always been afraid of using "wheel cleaner" products for fear of damaging my wheels with strong chemicals.

I used IronX, then put a good coat of Brake Dust Barrier on, and was easy to clean with just soapy water for several months. Looks to be building up again now, going on a year maybe? So not too bad...

Thanks for your help, is the brake dust barrier a cleaner or is it a post cleaner that makes it easier to clean in the future

It is a post cleaner.
You want your wheels to be clean before you put the product on.

Brushes can scrub a bit more sometimes... but really just a matter of what works best for the shape, access, etc...

Well in my experience with BMW wheels and break dust you'll need to polish out that BD.
DON'T use Break Dust Barrier UNTIL you get them clean and I mean as clean as you'd like.
I hate BMW rims that have this problem. It's very hard, Imo, to get this out.
So don't drive yourself crazy over it if you can't perfect these. If you take it to a Rim Polishing Shop. They have the tools to fix these or swap them out.

I use rimwax free washing my wheels. Can/should one use Brake Dust Barrier before or after the rimwax? Or not use wax at all?

The BD Barrier should be against the metal/paint surface to bond best.

I suppose could be waxed over if wanted.

I guess applying wax over the Brake Dust barrier would remove some of it? Or defeat the purpose and cause dust to stick again? I guess I will wax when the wheel looks dull but otherwise use the barrier after washing....thanks

The BD Barrier should really just need applied once every several months.
