  • Knocking out haze with Black Wax

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm not a professional, I just buff cars on the side for my friends and family for a little extra income and enjoyment and a good workout. In a nutshell I generally use Ultimate Compound as initial step and then follow up M205 to knock down the haze and refine the finish and finish with two coats of wax. Yes yes yes yes I know every paint has a different level of polishability and hardness and responds different, what I would like to ask you all is from your experience, generally speaking, is Black Wax agressive enough in the paint cleaning department to knock out a little haze. I'm thinking I could use Black Wax in lieu of M205 and that would be the first coat of wax, so essentially it could cut out one full step. Again, generally speaking from your all experiences with it.

Oh and FYI Meguiars- I can't find Black Wax locally anywhere, White Wax is everywhere locally. I'm going to need to special order the Black Wax

Don't know about the Black wax handling the haze, but the white wax has more cut, so it might take care of the haze better than the black wax.

Not that much. I'd go with White Wax. It has more cleaning/cutting abilities.

I've taken out Rotary Buffer marks with Black Wax but that was on a single stage Acrylic pant.
It worked for that car but on a Cadi, Vett and a Silverado it didn't do much correction.
If you have it try it.
Haze is a peculiar thing and is sometimes hard to figure out. So you might have to try a few different things.
M66 is my goto for most of my customers cars and does a great job.

Thanks everybody, thats kind of what I thought that the black wax wasn't quite agressive enough to knock down a little haze from Ultimate Compound or 105 the way that 205 works, it sounds like the white wax might just do it though! Does the White Wax finish off really nice when used with a yellow polishing pad?

I like the White Wax on yellow pad.
I've done about 4 cars/SUV's with it and it finishes off nicely.
              You'll like it alot.

Thanks, quick question, how would you compare the White Wax with Color-X as far as aggressiveness and overall finishing ability? I've actually used Color-X before after #80 before the newer technology SMAT compounds came out and it was perfect at knocking out the haze you may get from #80

I agree on ColorX, one of my favorites, just slightly less cut than M66 but same basic product except for not being rotary friendly. I have tried the Black wax, very nice, but I think I still like ColorX better.

Re: Knocking out haze with Black Wax

White Wax will have more defect removing ability than Color-X and it definitely has more cut than Black Wax. But both Black & White Waxes use SMAT abrasives, making them the first such waxes in our lineup. We've done some surprising correction with White Wax on a yellow foam pad, far beyond just removing DA haze from a compounding step. We're talking full on swirls here, but admittedly we applied at speed 5 and with a bit of pressure, which is probably a departure from how most would apply a wax in the first place.

Maybe you could try a section and see if you are happy with the results. If not, then you know you should hit it with 205 , then wax away. What color is it ?
