  • Ultimate Compound or Polish

Lets say you were going to wash, claybar, (insert step), LSP using Megs Ultimate Paste Wax

Which would you use, Ultimate Compound or Ultimate Polish?

    Method is by hand.

I see Compound useful for cleaning the paint and removing oxidation and light swirls. I see Polish useful for adding a gloss and luster to the paint before LSP.

      ^^Agreed.

Also depends on the condition of your paint. Do you have swirls / water spots etc? If so, you'd probably want to start with UC, especially since you're working by hand.

As always though, a test spot would reveal all.

I will skip polish most of the time because my car is white in color.

If the paint is in relatively good condition (minimal swirls), I would go for a cleaner wax and keep the UC for future use. The original maroon bottle or cleaner paste wax, or ColorX, White Wax or Black Wax depending also on the color of the car.

What everyone is trying to accomplish, the shiniest best looking swirl-free paint

Can not use both, only one of the other.

Maybe on a dark car use the polish, but on a light car use the compound?

Especially since you're working by hand, Ultimate Compound is the way to go. Ultimate Polish is very light duty and most likely won't correct these issues by hand.

Any benefit of using a Black Wax/White Wax/Cleaner Wax instead of Ultimate Compound? Then finishing with UPW as an LSP

Some benefit yes. But they probably won't fully correct the issues you've described.

I dont like working with UC by hand. My main goal is to CLEAN the paint and bring back the shine, not really remove scratches or swirls. I can do Cleaner Wax then UPW alot faster than UC then UPW.

Would white or black wax be better for cleaning before using UPW as an LSP?

The White Wax has more cleaners.

So Wash, Clay, White Wax, and Ultimate Paste Wax would be a good system to CLEAN paint, not really correct it.

Should do the job nicely, yes.
