3M Paint Defender

Has anyone tried or know anything about the "3M Paint Defender"? I have seen it advertised on TV and wondered if it is worth using or if it could cause damage to the paint?

I just ordered some, and will post up on my experiences when I'm done with it. Looks a lot like plasti-dip. I thought it could save $700-$800 of clear bra and, even if I have to do it once a year, still a cost-effective solution. We'll see.

While an argument can certainly be made that it's a lot like Plasti-Dip in that it's a flexible, strippable spray on coating, it is a bit different. The most obvious difference is that Paint Defender is clear and not black or one of the other colors Plasti-Dip is now available in. It also takes a bit longer to dry than Plasti-Dip does but then again it's designed to lay down flatter, too. It seems like a great DIY alternative to a professional clear bra installation, especially if you'd rather not have something like that on your car all the time. With Paint Defender you can quickly apply a protective, clear coating to the front of your vehicle prior to a road trip, then just peel it off once you get home.

Michael: Would Meguiar's consider bringing out a comparable product? I agree that it seems like a good short-term alternative to a more permanent clear bra.

I saw it in a display at an AutoZone yesterday. They had some flyers so I picked one up. Looks interesting. Maybe it might be be something to put on the top of a tall pickup to protect against birdie do-do......
