  • To far gone for a home job?

So my car had this problem when I bought it, looked the the paint is slightly oxidized/sun faded. I got the car put some wax on it and it was fine, covered it up and looked great... until the rain came or I washed the car and the waxing process had to be repeated again. I am looking for something a bit more permanent to fix this. The product guide on the meguiar's site recommended me the ultimate compound so I figured I would give it a try on a small spot, the spoiler. (THE spoiler, roof and hood suffer from the same problem.) I washed the car, dried and applied the ultimate compound just as it said on the bottle. Wiped it off and it looked exactly the same.. Then I took some meguiars wax I had around, and it still looked the same as before I started the process.

Now before I go spend anymore money, is the car too far gone for me to get better? Should I just bring it to detail shop in hopes they can fix it and not have to spray the car..

Hate to say but that looks like the very early stage of CC failure.....you can make it look better, but it can't be fixed. Re-paint......:-(
    Black......the ONLY color!

We're inclined to go with SVT Lightning's assessment here, especially since you're seeing this on the spoiler, roof and hood and nothing is fixing it for any length of time. Clear coat failure is almost never fixable, even if you catch it early on. The problem is that modern clear coats are vastly different from a chemical perspective than old single stage lacquers were. Those paint systems would oxidize on the surface and you could simply buff away the oxidized paint and reveal "fresh" paint underneath. With a modern catalyzed clear coat the oxidation process is a bit different and it tends to break apart the material, causing it to crumble and eventually either break apart completely or actually start to peel. And once the clear coat fails and starts to expose the color under it, that color will never hold a gloss.

Unfortunately it looks like you may no alternative here but to strip and repaint.
