  • What pad to use?

I've searched but couldn't find an answer. What pad do I use for the polish step after compounding with m101 on a mf pad?

-I'm gonna be using a Rupes 21 with the Meg's cutting mf and 101.
-For polish I'm gonna use 205 but not sure which pad to use

Do I use the Meg's mf finishing pad or a LC white pad?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Probably would get a better finish using foam with #205.

I would highly recommend using the LC black/grey finishing pad. I want to suggest the Meguiar's Softbuff 2.0 W9207 Foam Finishing pad but the Rupes 21ES BP will cut through its edges. So any finishing foam pad would work best IMO.

Try using a 6" microfiber finishing disc with M101 - you'll still get a ton of cut but a nicer feel overall. If you have some M100 on hand you'll find it dusts much less than M101 and still cuts like mad with the Rupes 21 and a 6" microfiber finishing disc. Even on pretty hard paint I've pulled out 3000 grit sanding marks in no time with M100/DMF6/Rupes 21 and left no haze at all. Crazy stuff.

But for finishing with M205 you definitely want to go with a soft foam finishing pad, and don't work it for too long as M205 does its thing pretty quickly. If you have access to a rotary buffer that will spin really slowly, you might want to try M205 on a soft foam finishing pad at 600 rpm to finish off.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna have to try the 205 with the LC pad. I will keep in mind the 100 as I don't currently have that available. As soon as I get my skills better ill pick up a rotary also. Once again thanks for all the help you guys supply.
