  • My first question... or two.

    Hello everyone!
Last two cars we have owned I had slacked off from detailing them as I used to do, and now am back in the game.
For my first question I bought a new crossover for my wife recently and have been keeping it all sparkly (we have gotten lots of compliments already, very deep shine). The car was out yesterday driven about 50 miles and I went to do the UQD to it, and had only done the doors when I noticed I picked up and had been using the UQW instead. Ack! Do you think I might have sealed any contaminants in the paint and should re-wash? Car was not that dirty.
Second question, when I use UQD or even UQW how careful does one have to be with the plastic bits on the car? Her car has black plastic (textured) running all around the bottom under every panel and I worry about overspray on those, (it would be pretty hard esp with UQD not to get some overspray on it) or is it safe to use both or one of those products on textured black plastic?

Hmm and now for a quick third question, I can't seem to make new paragraphs. I am hitting return but nothing is happening. This is odd. Thanks. **Third Edit** Okay I am reallllyyy trying to make new paragraphs here, what am I doing wrong? Don't ask how this one happened, I have no idea I cut it and then kept hitting return and the cursor finally moved down one, and I pasted it back in.

For question 1, no, it won't seal in the contaminants. No worries, although you might have wasted a bit of it. Waxing on top of contaminants means it won't bond to the paint sufficiently compromising its durability.

For question 2, no real concerns with UQD and UQW over textured plastics. It won't accumulate in the tight areas, but subsequent applications of a protectant will be compromised. However, on smooth shiny plastic bits, UQD and UQW is absolutely fine. It will be safe, but being designed for paint, no real gains in applying it on textured black plastic. For those surfaces, it would be better to apply a protectant, first the plastics must be thoroughly cleaned as in removed of any previous treatment/protectant. Use a good all purpose cleaner, dry thouroughly, I would even go as far as cleaning further with isopropyl alcohol for maximum adhesion. You can start with Ultimate Black (similar to ultimate protectant liquid) or ultimate protectant spray, remember to apply VERY THIN for even finish and avoid any product running especially when it rains or if the car gets wet.

UQW doesn't have the durability as the traditional wax/sealants so you should be fine. My understanding and experience is that UQW does not stain plastic or rubber trims so no worries there as well. I also have problems with hitting return.
