  • Used Car, don't know how to approach this

Hello, I have recently acquired a 2008 Tahoe, Black used.

The owner have washed the truck about once every two weeks at a carwash, and that is as much detailing as I know.
Currently I own a Meguiars Polisher, and couple of different color pads (Black, Yellow, Cyan)

    Compounds:
    Meguiars Soap
    Scratch X 2.0
    Meguiars Clay Bar kit
    Ultra Finishing Polish
    Show Car Glaze
    Meguiars Wax

I am thinking about washing it, drying with towels, then use Clay Bar, Ultra Finishing Polish (Cyan Pad), then Show Car Glaze(Yellow Pad), then use the Wax with the Black Pad.

What additional compounds should I purchase and am I using the appropriate pads for the appropriate compounds? Thank you

wash, clay, polish/compound with a yellow pad and wax with a yellow pad.
That should do you just fine.
unless you have deeper scratches that bother you.
Use a compound and a red pad before the polish to get out the deeper scratches.
Use only one wax, no need to waste time and money waxing twice. Also you'll remove the first coat of wax so really your waxing twice as much and getting only one coat of wax.

      Would this be correct "steps":?

      Wash
      Clay Bar
      Meguiars Ultra Cut (Cyan Pad)
Meguiars Ultra Finishing Polish (Yellow Pad)
      Meguiars Show Car Glaze (Yellow)
      Wax (Black)

Not to be condescending, but seeing you only have a few posts, I recommend reading this if you haven't yet: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...-Cycle-Updated. It will be worth your time.

What brand pads do you have? In the Meg's line, the yellow pad is a medium polishing pad. In the Lake Country line, the yellow pad is a coarser compounding pad, OK for 105, but too coarse for finishing well with 205. Here's a chart comparing the two:

The M07 step is certainly optional. I use a lot of it on older single-stage paints, but you may find your 205 finishes well enough that you can go directly to wax. Also, if the paint is in good condition, you may be able to correct minor swirls with the 205, using the Scratch X or 105 only on the nastier areas, saving a step. Once you're all cleaned and clayed, do a thorough panel-by-panel assessment and let the paint decide which compounding/polishing steps you need to take. Try some test spots and post up again if any questions arise.
