  • Clay

I know there are different types of clay based on whether your paint needs light removal, medium or heavy oxidation.
These types cost the same from the same seller

I see a big diversity in the price of clay from different sellers, I don`t know why, isn`t clay pretty
much just clay. I see clay from $7 to $45+. Is there any reason why? Is the higher priced supposed to do a better job,
    if so how...Jim

    Re: Clay

Different sellers will sell things at different prices, cannot base performance of a product on price.
I've used Meguiar's clay kit and the Mother's clay kit and have not noticed any noticeable advantages of either.
I find you cannot always judge products on "brand" names either...just because a brand of clay sells for $50 does not mean it's better than the $10 bar.
Is that certain brand of wax selling at $200/ container better than Meguiar's UW selling at $20-25?? On a side by side comparison on a nicely detailed car, can you truely tell the difference?

        Re: Clay

Clay does come in various levels of aggressiveness and is sold in different sizes, packaged with other materials, etc and all of this impacts pricing. For example, our Smooth Surface Clay Kit comes with two 60 gram bars of clay, a microfiber towel and a bottle of Quik Detailer to use as lubricant. This gives the average consumer everything they need to properly clay any vehicle with fairly common above surface contaminants. Other "clay kits" found alongside ours on store shelves often carry very similar accessories, and the aggressiveness of the clays in these various kits is pretty similar.

Our professional clay bars, C2000 Mild blue and C2100 Aggressive red, come as a single 200 gram bar and are more aggressive than consumer clay is. C2000 will remove heavier contaminants in less time, and C2100 can remove extreme overspray but often at the price of hazing or micromarring the paint. We don't recommend C2100 to the casual user because of this, unless they seriously have the need for it and fully intend to machine polish after claying.

I recall the Megs clay kit originally had 2 bars of clay, MF towel, QD and a sample size of A12 cleaner wax along with a plastic case for the clay. The Mother's kit only had an MF towel and QD, no case...though at the time the clay bars were larger....though Megs did have larger bars later and replaced the A12 cleaner wax with a sample size of UQW.
I though the Megs clay bars were increased to 80g each for a total of 160g??
