  • Ultimate polish vs M205

Since I read that the Ultimate Polish has the same technology as m205 would it be considered to be less aggressive than M205? I had decided to use M205 and have it sitting on the shelf but was wondering if Megs Ultimate polish was less aggressive and thus remove less paint. It might be smart to do a test panel to see if it gets to the gloss I`m looking for.

Since my cars are new and have no defects I want to try the least aggressive step for the first time. I may be over thinking this as I do with a lot of things but I`m one that has to get my brain around what I`m doing before I can get things accomplished. What do you think? Jim

M205 is slightly more aggressive than Ultimate Polish. They are very similar liquids and both use non-diminishing super micro abrasives (SMAT). Ultimate Polish produces more gloss though, but M205 can be used with rotary buffers. You might like this aggressiveness chart (originally posted and tested by Mike Phillips):

Well.. both are on the quite mild side already... UP would be a bit milder with a bit more polishing oils.

As has been pointed out, UP is derived from M205 but is less aggressive. That said, M205 can do wonders for new paint, even if it really is defect free. Darker colored paints and any metallic regardless of color can be made to really pop with M205, especially if it's being applied with a DA or rotary buffer. If you're working by hand then you're really splitting hairs by trying to decide between UP and M205, but since you already have M205 we highly recommend you give it a go. We wouldn't hesitate to use M205 on any new car, from a Kia to a Bugatti, just to take the paint to the next level.

so is that from least aggressive (105) to most aggressive (205)?

I believe it is the other way around. Compound more aggressive polish least.

#105 is most, #205 is least in the picture. With UP lower than #205.

gotcha. thanks! it didnt make sense at first because of the cut line indicating the 105 having more over the 205.

I used UP on my car with a black finishing pad, got most of the light swirls with one pass!
Although this time I worked on my technique more this time doing more passes and pressed a little harder on the polisher, and I gotta say the results are phenomenal!
