  • Crystal Red Tintcoat

I have been away from here for awhile but I have a question. I just bought a new 2012 Buick Enclave with Crystal Red Tintcoat and was wondering what the difference in that paint is other paints as it cost about $400 more than the regular colors. I have tried googleing it but have not found anything definitive about it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Most manufacturers have paint colors that cost more than others do, whether it's down to metallics versus non metallics, three stage paints with a pearl finish versus typical two stage paints, etc. From the sounds of it, your particular paint color has a tinted clear coat that is likely a bit more expensive than a non tinted clear. The care and feeding of this paint is no different than any other modern catalyzed paint, however, so don't stress over what products you can or can't use. If in fact this is a tinted clear, you should see some color transfer onto your applicator pads but again, nothing at all to worry about.

Congrats on the new ride, by the way!

      Thanks for you reply Mike.
The first thing I did was clay the vehicle as it did need it, then I applied a coat of #7 Showcar Glaze, then a coat of #26 yellow wax.
The '07 Lucerne I traded in had 83,000 miles on it and the used car manager said he had never seen a car of that age and mileage look as clean and good as that one did inside, outside , & under the hood. Thanks to Meguiar's and this forum for getting me top dollar on my trade.

        Re: Crystal Red Tintcoat

In my brief experience working in an auto parts store we had to mix paint on occasion. It seemed the Reds did cost a bit more. I think it is because there are more tint colors needed to make the color red. Not sure if that's the reason why the crystal red tint coat is more expensive but it may be a start? By the way I have a Crystal Red Tintcoat Traverse so I do feel your pain in the added cost.

Historically, red was always cheaper, thats why barns are red! I'm sure red added to a clear is more expensive than just the clear, though probably not $400 worth All that matters....Does it look nice?
