  • Suggestions after swirls?

I'm doing a 99 Chevy Suburban paint correction to remove the swirls. After using the D300 compound on the microfiber 5.5" pad I still notice scratches. This truck has lots of scratches on it and I'm sure lots will not come out.

I was wondering any course of action I could take after the D300? the swirls are removing easier than I thought. But I hate seeing the left behind scratches. I went through speed 4(4800) on the DA with 5-6 section passed starting with heavy pressure and lightining up on the final passes. Like I said, swirls are gone on the side I worked on (entire drivers side).

What about D300 on a foam pad now or M105 on a foam to see if it'll remove anymore? He realizes this paint is 14 years old and it's a trailer hauler, os it's seen it's share of work.

I'll have the truck for a few more nights.

This shows no swirls but scratches here and there.

Have you tried to give it another pass to see if it removes more defects? Look carefully at the scratch...it could be too deep to actually remove. Like you said...it's a 14 year old car...sometimes what you get is what you get. Good luck.

D300 on foam will be less aggressive than on microfiber, as will M105 on foam. You could try M105 on the microfiber though, as that will certainly up the cutting ability. But you said it yourself, this truck is 14 years and it works hard for a living. Unless the owner is paying for a true show car finish, don't let the presence of some random scratches get you down. This is where you need to manage a customer's expectations and point out issues that either can't be removed with the process he's paying for (a one step polish/wax or even a two step correction) or that simply are too deep to safely remove. If you're getting paid for this work, you owe it to yourself to not put in more hours than the pay covers. But you still owe it to the client to explain the situation to him, of course.

I'll see what the M105 and the MF does on a panel.

Yes the client knows about the scratches and may or may not come out. No show car finish to be done. Main goal was to remove the swirls and get the paint to a fresher look with a deeper gloss. Just what I've done in 3-1/2 hours with the driver's side alone has made a big difference.

I still have the hood, roof, rear doors and entire passengers side to do. I'll tackle the passengers side tonight and the rear doors. Then the hood and roof Wednesday night.

I will also use a fresh MF pad and try the m105 on a couple panels to see if it'll remove more.

        Thank you all for reply!

Forgot to ask, when using the Mf pads with the M105, should I saturate the pad like with the D300, or just 3-4 pea sized drops or an X??
