  • missing a key ingredient up here in Canada

I have a 2011 Buick Regal with a dark brown Expresso Bronze Metallic finish. It's been on the road for a couple of years now and has some swirls showing in the finish, some fine scratches on the driver's door, along with some bird poop that has etched into the clearcoat in a couple of spots. After reading thru some of the forum threads I was planning to:
    1. wash
    2. clay
    3. treat some of the bad scratch areas and the bird poop etch with Scratch X 2.0
    4. use Swirl X for the pre-wax prep to get rid of the swirl marks in the rest of the finish
    5. NXT 2.0 to seal

    - all by hand

One problem - I can't find Swirl X up here anywhere. Can I use Ultimate Polish instead (ie: will it do the same job as Swirl X), as it is available up here, or is there another comparable product available in Canada? I think Ultimate Compound may be overkill and I am afraid of doing damage. Also, is NXT 2.0 a correct finishing step, or should I be using a pure wax? Thanks in advance for your help!

I would switch to uc and up combo, they work so good.

SwirlX by hand = lotsa elbow grease, and you may not get the results
UC by hand = less elbow grease, better chance of getting the results...just work on a small areas at a time

To answer your question: Yes you can substitute SwirlX for UP, as they do a similar job.

But as others have said, you might be better off with UC & UP.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I wouldn't want ScratchX 2.0 either... just UC then UP.

Thanks for the info folks. I'll give the UC + UP a try. I must admit I'm really nervous about using UC though.

Why are you so scared? Your not sanding. Your polishing. You have nothing to be scared abute.
Meguiar's products have been tested extensively. Your not going to do anything that won't be fixable.
Read the bottle, do what it says. Call Meguiar's directly if you have any question.
Even as a pro I call then all the time.
Basically you'll put the UC on a foam pad and rub it on the paint, not scary at all. Rub, check, rub, check. Always check your work as you go. Sometimes it takes me an hour to figure out the right technique/products to use.

ScratchX 2.0 and UC are pretty much the same thing anyway.

Just be sure to use smooth foam applicators and even pressure.

I was scared of using UC on my car, but it turned out to be great stuff to remove a couple of small scratches. Don't be afraid to use it. I was not happy with UP though. which was recommend to me as a replacement for ColorX. (not wax, just the cleaning of ColorX, as I put M16 on as a final) I thought so little of UP, I think I left it out in the garage to freeze over the winter. You can be your own judge of UP.
