  • Pad Defects? W8207 Seperated on me

Well I was using the W8207 Yellow Soft Buff 2.0 Pad and it came off on me. I look at the backing it the Velcro or whatever it is came off the foam. I've never washed this and it's only about a month old. Used on a couple cars. Plus the center of it developed a hole in the center. Any ideas why? I don't feel like buying more pads to have this continue to happen. These are exactly cheap. I'm glad I had extra pads to finish the car. I also have 2 other pads with holes developing in the center, 1 more yellow pad and 1 black finishing pad. I guess these aren't going to last as long as I was hoping.

I'm not real happy with what has happened. I don't know if it's a defect or if I'm doing something wrong. I use the nylon pad cleaner brush. I am wondering if that is tearing up the pads??

My Yellow pad did the same exact thing. it took about 11 months I must of used it about 10 times before the velcro started coming off. Thinking of trying different pads in the future

I clean my pads with APC "Purple Power" then let air dry.

Are you washing the pad at all in the washing machine? If so are you air drying or machine drying? They do wear out over time but I've never had holes develop
Even the best cars look like junk when they are not clean

As mentioned in the first post. I've never washed them. I've only had them for 5 weeks or so and done a couple cars and have used a couple pads during each detail.

Are you using the correct Meguiars backing plate? A different brand or type can cause problems with the Velcro backing. Also too much heat build-up caused by prolonged downward pressure, and/or infrequent cleaning of the pad can also cause issues with too much heat build up. How often are you cleaning your pads as you work?

It could also be a possibility that you are catching the pad on something sharp and that's snagging on the front side and tearing small pieces off, or perhaps you are using too much pressure with the pad brush and damaging the pad.

Re: Pad Defects? W8207 Seperated on me

I use the appropriate backing plate that came with the unit, the 68da. I was wondering about the heat issue as well. It was a little warmer than usual when I felt it. I do clean the pads on the fly with the towel method and the nylon brush. So maybe 3-4 sections of the car then clean. example: trunk, rear bumper and 1 maybe 2 of the rear quarters, then clean pad on the fly, return to all doors, clean pad, do roof hood front end, do towel method to squeeze excess out.

Most likely it's from heat. Your putting to much pressure? These pads shouldn't do this. Check your technique.

Now that I'm thinking of it more, I believe I put extra pressure on it when removing the scruff marks off the Malibu. Had to pretty good ones in there. Can see those from the "Show you latest detailing works" thread.
