  • Swirl problem with QD on fresh paint

    Hi All

My car was painted 2 days ago. I use a quality and very soft microfiber cloth with quick detailer to remove dust on the surface.

After doing that, I realise that there were many fine scratches and swirls.

I will use 2 mf cloth, spray qd on the surface and use the 1st cloth to remove the qd and use the 2nd cloth to wipe it dry. I always do the same way for other cars (without fresh paint) and there were no scratches.

Am I doing it wrongly or it is due to the fresh paint which is very soft and not full cured?

Not recondable to use any detailer spray wich lefts some "wax" behind until the paint has cured, and thats about 3-2 months after the paint.

i thought its alright to use QD instead of UQD. That why I went to purchase a bottle of QD even though i have UQD.

I did some research online before using QD. But why will it leaves scratches?

Quick detailers will not generate swirls on their own. Examine your microfibers and evaluate the pressure you use. Some clear coats are very sensitive to the friction of wiping with anything.

Did the painter indicate when you could start working on the fresh paint?

Nope he did not tell me anything. He even says that it is alright to wax my car now. I told him that might need to wait at least 1 to 2 months before waxing to let the paint fully cured and for all the gas to be released.

He told me that it is nonsense and it is better to wax now and do it more often. Now I'm planing to wait for a month and use DA to remove the scratches. Im just curious if fresh paint are usually soft...

If the paint was baked you can wax right now, but i guess thats not the case, so i suggest you to wait until it cure.

If you apply some hisopropyl alcohol on the painted part, then you wait about 3 hours if you wet the part and you see some "beading" it isnt cure yet.

You better wait until this is cured.
