  • Is this normal pad wear?

    I'm using the soft buff 2.0 W8207 pad with UC. Does the pad look right? I've only used it on another car with the same UC. I don't mix and max pads and chemicals. I'm just thinking the pad isn't looking right, too saturated? etc.?????

    You can see the spindle circle in the middle. Maybe too much pressure? These swirls in the Dodge Charger I'm doing are a biscuit. I noticed they weren't coming out well with the UC, I changed to a brand new pad and now they're coming out better.

    Thoughts??

    Oh and hurry, off to lunch then back at it. Already been on it for 4-1/2 hours.

    Are you cleaning on the fly? How are you priming and/or how much do you add between sections?

    It looks like your pad got way over saturated and you tried to work past it with machine speed and pressure. If that is the case, you might find you can get better cut with less product.

      Looks a little saturated to me. Are you cleaning the pad "on the fly" with a microfiber towel or I sometimes use a detail brush. I don't know how far you've gotten on the car, but it usually takes me several pads (3-6) to polish a entire car. Eventually the pads get saturated with product no matter what you do, then time to grab a clean one.

          Ok done with the car. What a pain. 9 hours and not satisfied. The customer was. Except I could not get the front bugs out of the entire front end. Everything else is beautiful, but bummed that every I tried, didn't make a dent in the front clip. I'm thinking the acid or whatever from the bugs were etched in very deep into the plastic since they were removed right away.



          Anywho,

          I do prime it with an X, spread it out over a 2x2 section, when I apply more, I add 3 drops towards the outer edge. How long should I buff each area?? I went back and forth, up and down, 4-6 times each area (section passes). I do clean on the fly with a Meg's nylon brush and use the terry cloth towel to remove excess product. Guess I need some different technique or something with the saturation problem. I ended up using 3 pads all together. I guess I should stock up on more now, I have 2 more details through April 13th, and 3 more for sure to book still.


          I guess I'm not totally happy with my first detail of the year, as far as the pad situation. I want to fix the problem before next weekend.

            Pictures of front clip. Had this all over the front end. Could not find anything that worked to remove them.

                I do not have MF cut discs. Do they have them in the same 7" pad like the 8207 soft buff to fit the Dual Action Polisher? I was wondering about the MF pads. Same speed 4-5 with UC? or use a different cleaner like M105 or something stronger? I should have a heavier cut cleaner around anyway. This paint was hard, at least for me or maybe it was just me.

                  I have foam and the mf kit. What little bit of work I have done...the mf kit is just easy to use. There are three different size pads 3, 5, or 6. There is the Microfiber cutting disc which is supposed to be used with the D300 correction compound, and there are the finishing discs that are to be used with the D301 finishing wax. You would need the W67DA backing platee for the 5 inch kit, which is what I have. I have read several posts about people using different compounds with the mf correction pads but I personally have not tried anything other than the D300 made for the kit. Now that I have put that little bit of information out there with what little bit of knowledge I do have I will let the regulars take care of you from here.

                    Don't worry. Your still learning and your disappointment tells me you take pride in your work. So your on the right track!
                    I would have hit those bugs with M105, MFT and my finger. Done!
                    This little trick works on just about any little paint defect: Paint transfer, door handle finger nail scratches, bugs, chrome window trim and many others.

                    Your pad has to much product, just use less. Your pads should never look like that. But that's ok, your learning.
                    Your customer was happy, you weren't so next time you'll do better. literally you need to read almost every post here, understand them, and then you'll have alot of experience. But that's ridiculous so your going to have to do the "trial and error" approach. But you'll get there.
