  • S3bp adapters

    Hi,

Can someone please tell me if any of the adapters that come with the S3BP backing plate will fit the W6814mm (rotary) backing plate to allow me to use that backing plate with my DA?

    Cheers,

    Re: S3bp adapters

It would be better to use rotary backing plates with rotary buffers and D/A backing plates with dual action polishers as they're designed for specific application/ machine type.

    W63, W66 and W68 - rotary buffers,
    S3BP, S6BP, W67DA and W68DA - dual action machines.

      Thanks Greg0303

Unfortunately I have already purchased the W68 by mistake so if an adapter would fit that would save the expense of having to buy the W68DA.

I'll check my set and let you know.

Check out Mike's article about backing plates:

          Thanks Greg0303.

The way I understand the Backing Plate article is that I can use the W68 ONLY if I use it in combination with the Soft Buff 2.0 pads (which I have), so if an adapter fits then it would still be a suitable back-up if I also purchase a W68DA backing plate.

            Re: S3bp adapters

No, none of the adapters that come with the S3BP will convert the 14mm female threaded W6814 rotary back plate to 5/15 - 24 male spindle. They are all designed to fit into the 5/16" hole in the S3BP plate while the variations are to then mount the plate to various DA tools, whether standard electric DA buffers, or any of the various sized pneumatic DAs on the market. Since you haven't used that backing plate can't you return it to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange? The part number you're looking for is W68DA by the way.

              Re: S3bp adapters

Thanks Michael - that helps me out.
I will purchase the S3BP anyway (as well as a W68DA) because I want to use the 4" pads.
The place where I purchased the original plate from does not stock the DA version.
I have made a request for an exchange / refund but have not heard back from them as yet.
