Put some protection on them!
Brake Dust Barrier is an awesome product.
Also M135 or D156 works well to.
Then all you to do is wipe with a towel or spray off with water.

Google 16” Spoke Wheel Brush (medium-stiff)Tampico bristles. I have a the medium and soft, love them both and they don't scratch the wheels. Also I wouldn't use Megs WB all the time, too harsh. After a good cleaning put some synthetic sealant on them and the next time you wash all you need is soap and water.

The chenille wash mitt you're currently using is actually a very good choice, provided you're cleaning it after use. Another option, although definitely a bit pricey, is something I've started using recently (which means this is a purely personal opinion and NOT a Meguiar's recommendation) are the Wheel Woolies (Google is your friend here).
