  • Meguiars Wheel Brightener D1400 question

I have always used Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner on my vehicles with no problems. I just ordered a gallon of the Meguiars Wheel Brightener D1400 and was wondering if it is OK to use on the below wheels. I have some 70's & 80's Cadillacs with the wire wheel covers, 2003 Olds Bravada with a coated wheel, and my wife's new Durango with the chrome cap covers. I read that Wheel Brightener should be dilluted 1:1 or 2:1. Thanks for any help you can provide to me.

Re: Meguiars Wheel Brightener D1400 question

WB should be diluted to 4:1, think it would be safe on the wheels you posted.
I find that once my wheels were cleaned with WB, i tend to use Meg APC+ at 10:1 or regular wash soap.....WB is now kinda set aside for my non car friends asking me to help them out

Re: Meguiars Wheel Brightener D1400 question

I used Megs WB yesterday on some nasty wheels.

        Here are the before pics:

        After pics:

The wheels you posted don't look that dirty, might not need WB. I only use WB for really tough jobs. These wheels also required several brushes, a wheel cone and some M105 in addition to WB. After a good cleaning and a sealant, I use soap and water. I try to avoid using wheels cleaners as much as possible.

Re: Meguiars Wheel Brightener D1400 question

Yes WB should be fine. WB is a very, very, very strong and dangerous product!
I mix mine a little lighter, 8:1, since it works so well.
          Don't breath this stuff in!
Don't get it on any part of your skin!

          Now that I've scarred you.
Hydrofluoric acid will eat your bones. So you won't see any damage until your 80.
So use a respirator, and gloves.
Spray it on, wait a min. rise it off, then clean. Re-apply if necessary.

Typically, factory rims are ok for wheel brightener. Be careful not to use it when it's windy though. Great product for wheels, not so good when its blown over onto the paint.

^ i usually adjust my sprayer so the product is not soo atomized ...as the wind can really pick the product up and blown against your paint or back at you....
