  • How to clean after applying wax?

    Hi all,

I've finally done my first wash on my new black car on the weekend. I bought a range of Meguiars products and spent a good 4 hours on the car. So here is what i did:
    1.GC Shampoo
    2.Wipe Dry
    3.Detailing Clay w Quik Detailer
    4.Cleaner Wax (one coat)

Only when I got around using the Cleaner Wax, I noticed that I hadn't cleaned the bottom section (under the doors) well enough. Whats the best thing to do here? Can I just use a detailer and wipe the dirt off and then apply wax?

I'm a totally noob at detailing. Any advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks guys. =)

Not wishing to sound too harsh, perhaps you should consider that good practice and start again. If you find dirt after washing and claying, you might need to try again. Claying a dirty car should have coated up your clay with dirt, unless the dirt is more than dirt (tar, paint, ?). Even the cleaner wax should have done some minor cleaning. Being the first time, perhaps you just missed it. That happens every so often, I think to most of us.

Next to the front end, the wheels and wheel wells, the lower sections are among the dirtiest.

Yes, if you want to quickly clean the lower section, you may wipe down (off) with quick detailer. At worst, the car will not have the show car finish you were seeking and the wax may not last as long as you would like.

this is a common mistake. I have to tell myself all the time to make sure I get the lowers.
Waterless wash is what I would use but if you don't have any then, mix up some soap and water and wipe off these areas unless they are filthy.
      Wipe, rise repeat.

Thanks heaps for the advice guys. It is a very silly mistake but also one that's easily overlooked since i tend to leave the bottom section last. I'll give it a go again tomorrow. Btw, how do you wash the applicator pads when you're done?

I wash them by hand using All Purpose Cleaner and then throw them in with my microfibers in the washing machine. You can wash them by hand with any liquid soap, just rinse thoroughly.
