Purchased car with some light swirl marks noticible when the sun hits it just right. Absolutely kills me to see it, my wife on the other hand said she never even saw them. How is that possible???? Anyway, using Ultimate Compound then Ultimate Polish before waxing. Question is whether adding in the #7 Polish would enhance it at all after the Ultimate Polish? Am I just creating more work or will it make any difference that I could recognize? Any thoughts????

Re: Add Polish 7????
It may help, since 7 is a pure polish with no abrasives. On the other hand, the improvements may be to small for you to even bother adding 7. The best way to determine whether or not to add 7 is to try it on a small area. Do a side by side comparison between an Ultimate Polished panel and a show car glazed (7) panel. If the difference is so small and feel that it's not worth the effort, then maybe you're better off not adding number 7

Re: Add Polish 7????
Thanks for the input! I was reading in another thread that perhaps the Ult Polish would solve the problem without hitting it with the compound first. What do you think? The car is a maroon color and the paint looks perfect except for the swirls. Also, it is only a year old. I am the type of guy that likes to do it right the first time then maintain it.

Re: Add Polish 7????
Ultimate Polish is very light duty, so in order for it to truly remove even light swirls the paint would have to be fairly soft. It may well cover up very light marring, but those marks will come back as the polish wears off, even with wax over it. Don't take this the wrong way - our polishes are not designed to be filler products that only hide defects. They are designed to be applied to highly prepped paint to enhance gloss and reflectivity, but the very nature of their composition makes them pretty adept at concealing as well. But we think using both Ultimate Polish and M07 is a bit overkill, especially on a modern clear coat. If UP isn't removing all of the defects to your satisfaction, then that's a strong indication that Ultimate Compound is called for. And that's usually the case.Michael Stoops

Re: Add Polish 7????
Some people can live with a few swirls here and there, some lose their minds at the sight of even the slightest swirlmarks. On some days I can live with a few swirls, on some I go crazy... I'm trying to find the balance between the 2..
Try Ultimate Compound, it's relatively easy even by hand. Just work in small areas (yes, it requires patience), it will take a couple of hours even with a DA Polisher. You can vary the amount of pressure and with that the aggressiveness of the product. Just don't let it dry, it can cause more issues if you do. Upon removal of the product, check the results I've had good experience with it. At best, it leaves my paint clear and ready for Wax/Sealant.
As for #7 on clear coats? My experience with #7 is that it enhances whatever qualities my car's paint has. I've used it on black metallic (yes, with clear coat), and the results were incredible. The paint seemed to get even blacker and bring out the metallic flaked even more. On silver (well, my car's type of silver anyway), there was an increase in brightness and depth. Brought out the flakes even more. Ok, definitely not as dramatic as when applied on dark paints but it does tell me that #7 while more suited for dark paints and single stage paints, will enhance most cars' paints. It's just a bit of a pain to use.. But I still have mine, and if I was really annoyed with it, I should have thrown it away a long time ago.

Re: Add Polish 7????
Thanks for the input guys! I really appreciate it. I am going to tackle this job over the weekend and I really can't wait to get started. I will especially post the before and after pics once completed. Just received my G110v2 in the mail today and am itching to get going. Was a little concerned about the compound and my ability to handle it and not make a mess of my paint, but I think I've seen enough videos of the proper technique to safely apply it. Do any of you use painters tape to mark off molding and such?
Nothing like watching a cloth towel effortlessly float off the hood of a car.

Re: Add Polish 7????
It's always better/wiser to tape all the moldings and other panels first before compounding or polishing. Sure, it will take time, but it is a lot more efficient in the end instead of spending a lot more time cleaning off any excess products in those tight crevices and areas. You might say it won't harm those plastic panels and moldings, but why spend time cleaning them when you can just tape them off, proceed to correction/polishing/waxing and enjoy the fruits of your labor? If residue gets in between those tight areas, you may need to use other tools and cleaners, more microfiber towels, it can be a bit messier.
For the best protection and crisp shine, Ultimate Wax is for you. If you plan to use your DA to apply wax, I'd go the liquid route. NXT 2.0 is the 2nd in command when it comes to durability. It gives a slightly different glow although it won't be that noticeable on a well corrected/prepped paint. Gold Class Carnauba Plus will give the darkest, richest shine but loses out to the 2 pure synthetic products in durability.
Good luck, set aside a day or 2, and enjoy it!

Re: Add Polish 7????
Thanks so much ffboy! I actually have both the NXT and the Ultimate waxes. Just bought the Ultimate to put on this car. Wife leaving for the weekend so I can garage the car and work on it. I'll post before/after pics. I only hope it looks half as good as that black mirror you have posted in your avatar. I don't know if I could drive that car looking that nice!! Beautiful.

Re: Add Polish 7????
That black "mirror" pic was taken months ago... Still shiny, but now has swirl marks. I don't really take care of that car, but trust me, it only looks good because the pic was taken at some distance from the car, so even that "mirror" you see even at that time still has swirl marks. If you have the liquid ultimatte, don't apply it like a regular wax. You have to Wipe-on, Wipe-off the product to minimize streaking.
In my opinion, just my humble opinion, after all the paint correction has been done and for some reason minor swirls reappear, there's nothing wrong with concealing some of the swirls with a glaze or pure polish. Sure, the swirls will reappear, but one can't really correct the paint at the sight of the slightest swirl mark. Just my opinion...
