Chrome is a PIA to take care of no matter if real, clad, plated, plastic...........etc.
So how do I know it's safe for my wheels?

Sorry to say this...but anytime you scratch any kind of chrome, you are basically SOL.

Use a chrome polish not a paint polish.
You know it's safe for chrome vecause it says chrome polish, it's made for chrone.

Try the polish by hand, if that doesn't work then try the polish with the cone/drill, low speed check your work, then med, then high. If this doen't work you are probably SOL. Try complaining to the dealer and GM, maybe get new covers out of it and lessoned learned.

That may sound simple but a few years ago I had a friend put polish on his rims and they were permanently hazed and foggy when he was finished.
