Re: Advice , new malibu 2012
Safe? I think it is provided that the wheels are cool to the touch. Is it the best? I would say that there are better products that are suited to what you want to accomplish than Glass Cleaner. Why not use a QD (red QD or UQD) if you do it every day or so? Or the new Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere if your intervals are longer? There was actually a product called wheel quik detailer. I think they discontinued it but I still have that bottle.2011 Car Crazy Showcase SEMA Team

I'll jump on the bandwagon with Marc, glass cleaner will work and may not harm the rims, but there are better products available.
In addition to what Marc mentioned, I would add Ultimate Quik Wax and also Rinse Free Express Wash.
I've worn microfiber gloves and worked Ultimate Quik Wax into and around the spokes of the rims. Sort of "cleans and protects".
If brake dust is going to be a continuing nuisance, I might suggest using Brake Dust Barrier. It will make it easier to clean your rims.

Once the weather warms up, give em a good cleaning with a (depending on wheel type) Megs All Wheel and Tire, then clay, then polish, then top with Megs UPW or Collonite 476s. I like 476s for wheels, I put a nice coat on and let it dry for 20-30 mins then remove. Next time you wash your wheels with regular soap and water the dirt comes right off. If you try 476s on paint make sure you go very thin and as soon as it hazes remove, otherwise you will skip arms at the gym for the next month.

Re: Advice , new malibu 2012
Most, non-alcohol based, car detailing products have a low temp limit of 50 degrees, give or take. So that would explain Ultimate Quik Wax freezing on the rims. The wind chill here has been double digits below zero. No detailing outdoors and most car washes are closed. So even sneaking into them is difficult. Finding one with heated bays is rare, but if you can find one that will help you out.
