  • Trim stain?

Hello all. I do not know what this is on my trim. I need opinions (or facts) on what it is. Like I said I don't know if its stained, mold, faded or what. I do not have any detailer line products yet. But do plan to order some. So any advice on how to get it clean and what to use would be great.

    Re: Trim stain?

I apologize for the kinda messed up post. First time posting pictures and I am using a Mac so the tutorial was not 100% accurate for me.

Have you tried anything so far?

Dont nessicerilly need Pro or Detailing line products to work on it.

Is that smooth black plastic, or rubbery at all?

I am not real sure what to use on it. I did take some interior cleaner and try to clean it, didn't do much for it. I also have some m40 and that didn't do much for it. It is the trim around my back glass on my truck. It feels a little rubbery (sp?) but is also kind of hard. If that makes sense.

          Hmm..

If you were to apply a dressing, like the #40, or a cleaner like APC, etc, I would want to work it in very well with a brush or terry cloth...

Some people have used things like Ult. Compound on that kind of trim to sort of remove the top layer of old rubber.

I do have UC and I have scratchx 2.0. It crossed my mind on using it. Part of me thinks it is a stain or mold since the truck is a 2010 with 30k miles but I could be wrong. I used a mf cloth and the 40 and put a lot of pressure into it and it did lighten it up a bit. Maybe some more patience is the trick. Or maybe I just need some apc+.

If you can get an out of the way place to start, that is hard to see... you could try the UC there.

                Re: Trim stain?

                looks damaged beyond repair.
the only thing you can do is repaint or put some protectant on it and call it a day.
these are the hardest thing on cars to keep up.
I use 38,40, tire & trim gel, Trim Shine or Hyper dressing and none of them are "great" on this kind of powder coated trim.
But if you find the answer I'd love to see it.

                    Re: Trim stain?

This looks slightly cementitious like ceramic floor mix or concrete compound if it is modified(additional chemicals to yield different strenghs or curing time)my experience has not been good -if its hard and rubberry and it looks black have you tried a pigmented polish ? it may help cover the stain (in effect mask it ) - I mean if ll else fails it may be easier to color it than clean it.
