  • Harley Davidson Aluminum Wheels Cleaning

What product do you suggest and how to clean the aluminum on these wheels? They are Harley Davidson Street Glide's.

Is there a clear coat over that?

If so, you would want to use the regular paint care products.

If it is bare, then any metal polish would work, like the Hot Rims M&A. However, the products like UC/#105 can also work well on bare metal.

If you are not sure, then you want to use a paint care product, and work it into the surface. Bare metal will turn your applicator soot black. Clear coated metal would just turn a little dirty gray.

      Thank you Murr1525,
It's bare metal. Do you recommend to use fine sand paper/steel wool or any type of clothes?

#0000 Steel wool is ok on bare metal, though I would be worried about messing up and getting into the black and scratching it up.

Some kind of terry cloth would be the safest place to start. I tend to like an old white sock turned inside out rather than a terry towel.

Best to do a test spot with something mild, then go more aggressive if needed. Not starting off aggressive.

I have two Harleys. One with non clearcoated aluminum wheels. Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish and a lot of rubbing. Stay away from the steel wool.

Those don't look all that bad. We suggest our new Medium Cut Metal Polish applied with either a cotton terry cloth applicator or a microfiber towel, and then follow with our Finish Cut Metal Polish using a microfiber towel or microfiber applicator pad. New Metal Polishes

For what it's worth. I'll certainly give these products a try next time I work over my Harley's aluminum wheels. Been using Meguiar's products for over forty years. Always been very satisfied with the results.

Michael Stoops: I have the same Harley wheels that require a little less cleaning. What product would you recommend to clean the wheels before applying the medium metal cut polish? What product would you recommended to clean the wheels during routine vehicle cleaning, between the two step wax process you described here?
