Hey guys,

This may be the weirdest question of the day probably but.

I heard that you need to use a respirator, gloves and eye protection when using the damf sys. Specially when cleaning the pads. True?

I wasn't using any at all....the finishing one smells like blueberries.

I'll post some pictures in a while about my accomplishments with the damf.

Perhaps the question is why wouldn't you wear personal protective equipment? You're using a spinning tool, a chemical and "grinding" off paint. Sounds like a good case for protecting yourself and your workers(?).

I'm sure others much more knowledgeable than me will advise you, but dose and time will play into the equation. How much are you exposed to and for how long? Without evaluation by an industrial hygienist, the decision will be based on your evaluation of the environment, ventilation and methods involved in your process. A review of the material safety data sheets from the Meguiar's web site will give you a good starting point and a call to their customer service too. In some cases, you may not approach the limits mentioned in MSDS.

You failed to mention hearing protection in your list. Keep in mind too that a dust mask may be sufficient and use of some forms of respirator require training, fit testing and your evaluation by a physician.

I'm sure some of the wise-ones here will give you some sound advise. Stay tuned...

Hey there I do have all the gear but for detailing I usually just wear the ear plugs I've never bumped into anyone detailing with respirator and safety glasses. I do use gloves if I have to get in direct contact (priming pads etc) but usually have thought of all products being really safe.

I'm in the auto restoration business so I've inhaled my fair amount of nasty stuff by accident, I wear respirators always when dry sanding, using paint or thinners etc. Polish and wax just seemed to mild and simple to consider protection equipment but guess I should know better.

Exposure has been minimal anyway thanks for your insight!

Well, stuff could spray off a pad into your eyes I guess....

Dont see too much need for respirators, unless doing a good bit of sanding...

Would need a particulate respirator for sanding, and some sort of chemical respirator for the thinner... I suppose an organic vaopr cartridge probably... or a combination cartridge to cover both steps.

I got a nice 3M respirator I use for chemicals and dry sanding with particulate and organic volatiles protection.

Regarding the glasses I see the need there but I rarely use as much product as to produce splatter at all. And I do wear glasses all the time so....haha.

The respirator deal came from a guy that told me harmful chemicals were release when you clean the microfiber brush with compressed air or with the brush.

Would seem more of a splatter, particulate in the air from cleaning than any chemicals, but that is only a guess....
