Wash=>Clay=>swirlx=>water rinse=>polish/wax

My apologies if this was answered before.
I love the family of products.
I just purchased a used car and noticed swirl marks so I'll use Swirlx on it.

As the title suggested I intend to wash with safe soap and water, clay, use SwirlX, rinse the car then polish with Nxt and finish with Meguiar's 26 Yellow Carnauba.

With my other car I used Paint Cleaner after clay. It is so mild that I felt I didn't need to rinse it off.

With SwirlX, with slightly more abrasives, I felt it better to do a rinse before polishing.


Just wondering if this is overkill.

Well from what I've heard about Swirlx it is so mild that there shouldn't be any need to rinse afterwords. Also from what I've heard it doesn't have any abrasive compounds in it.

If you were using a compound like meguiars ultimate compound or rubbing compound then yes definitely rinse afterwords.

If you are unsure you could always do a test spot. Another thing you can do to test abrasivness is rub some of the product between your fingers. If it feels like there's sand or grit then it's abrasive.

Dont really want to get the car wet while you are working on it. Just makes things harder, with more water dripping around. And would rinse off polishing oils anyway.

Better just to remove the product, then wax.

And rinsing off a product is going to have nothing to do with how abrasive it is. Not even sure what you might be thinking that would accomplish?

No matter how cleanly you wipe it off, washing/rinsing is a cleaner way to remove any residual product. SwirlX has a mild abrasive to help remove the swirls, as opposed to Paint Cleaner that doesn't have any abrasives at all. If there is any left, you may end up spreading that as you polish/wax.

If you're talking about removing any remaining oils that may be left behind from these products, an ipa wipe down would be much more effective and simpler than washing or rinsing a panel after each application of swirlx.

Meguiars do not specify the need for an ipa wipe down or wash/rinse between steps, however you can do it if you prefer. It's just not a necessity.

Remember if you work the product in properly, and with the correct applicator, it should wipe off cleanly and easily, leaving nothing, or nothing to be worried about having an effect on the next step in your process.

I've been detailing cars for years and never washed or rinsed between steps except maybe very rarely to remove product dusting after heavy compounding.

I've used both Swirl X and NXT 2.0 on numerous vehicles. Apply Swirl X by hand or DA Polisher, wipe off with a MF towel, apply NXT, it's that easy. Swirl X works well with a DA Polisher at removing light swirl marks and scratches.

Thank you that is the answer I was looking for. It is overkill to rinse after Swirl X. I use MF towel in my detail work so it isn't necessary to rinse.
