  • Maybe I'm doing this wrong...

Browsing the forums and getting ready to detail my car I've noticed something, I see alot of times you are to buff the product until it starts to go away.

I've been using meguiars deep crystal cleaner and polish, started out by hand and then switched to the random orbital, I've done it twice with the orbital and both times I've used the products I put it on the pad spread it out on the panel and then worked it for just a few minutes. I'd say to do half the hood I spent about 2-3 minutes...

So how long should I work the deep crystal cleaner and deep crystal polish?

You're not supposed to buff polishes until they are dry. So it sounds like what you are doing is OK.

I agree. It sounds like you are doing things correclty. The cleaner needs to bne worked in a bit and removed while it is still liquid. The polish does not need to be worked in very much. A few passes are more than enough to evenly spread the product.

so which product is doing the work in the deep crystal system (for swirl remover) the cleaner or the polish?

I would say neither... mostly the pad is removing the swirls, lubricated by the products. Products with a diminishing abrasive, like #80, #83, or ScratchX and ColorX by hand, will be the products that remove the swirls the best.

DC#1 is a Chemical Cleaner, and the DC#2 is a pure polish.

This is stange becouse in some places i have read that the product should "break down"(whatever that means) and get almost dry, using an orbital. And that MEGs 80 in particulary must be worked in this way. I tried this and worked the 80 in for a few minutes but it was no where near dry after that. Can someone clear this up for me?

            Thanks

Well, breaking down is the term for the 'diminishing abrasives' turning into smaller and smaller particles, and for the product drying out as you work it in.

It is hard to say why it didnt happen for you, as you didnt mention a whole lot about your procedure. My first guess is too much product was applied, and so it wasnt worked in long enough, and spread out enough.

Are you possibly using too much product?

I might have used too much product. I must try using less and see if that works out better.
