  • Gold class carnauba plus wax washed off

Hello, I detailed my car for the first time a few weekends ago, I followed a few suggestions I had read on various Internet forms. I washed my car with the gold class car shampoo, clayed my car (which smoothed out the whole car) and then finished with the gold class carnauba plus wax. For two weeks the car was shiny and smooth, no finger prints stuck to the black window trim or door handles. Yesterday I took the car to a touchless car wash and all the wax got washed off, my hand does not slide across the car like it did after I waxed it and there are finger prints on the handles.

So was the car wash too harsh or is the gold class carnauba pluse not very durable on it's own? If so, what can I do with it now?

My car is a daily driver, unfortunately I found the daily driver wash and wax thread after the car wsh feasco yesterday.

Touchless car washes usually use pretty harsh detergents to clean the vehicles. So much so, in fact, that they often call the rinse step a "neutralizing rinse". Think about that for a second - what the heck did they just put on your car that now needs to be neutralized???? Those detergent washes will pretty effectively strip wax off a vehicle.

As for the durability of Gold Class, keep in mind that it's a carnauba wax and not a full synthetic. Synthetics are going to be more durable, but a Minnesota winter with road salt and touchless car washes is still going to take it's toll. We recommend that you give our Ultimate Wax a try as it is a 100% synthetic polymer sealant; it's also our longest lasting, best protecting wax.

Generally speaking carnauba wax doesn't last that long, 2 weeks is definitely very short for a nuba. Another factor is the local swirl-o-matics; many car washes use harsh chemical cleaners to recycle their water and those chemicals will strip wax. How many coats did you put on? Did you let it dry to a haze and then remove?

If you are looking for longevity and durability go with a sealant like Megs Ultimate Paste Wax, Megs 21 or 21. Other great choices are Collonite 476s, 845 and Duragloss 105. All of these will last longer than GCCP. You can top the sealant with GCCP for that added look and warmth but just keep in mind it won't last.

Some touchless places use strong soaps, some dont, so hard to say for sure on that. But it is also possible some residue was left behind also. Even if the wax was removed, the surface should still be smooth, the same way it was smooth after claying, before you waxed.

You can try some quick detailer and a MF cloth, and see if you are able to remove any residue.

The most durable wax Meguiars has is the Ult. Wax, and then Nxt 2.0 being second I suppose.

            Thanks for the help.

I washed the car yesterday with the gold class car wash, it rained so I had an excuse to wash it so soon :p and some of the shine and slickness returned but not as much as a fresh wax.

If I were to put m21 or up wax on the car, will I have to strip off the remaining gccp?

No need to strip any remaining GC before applying a synthetic like those you mention.
