  • Rotary Buffer

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. What is the best way to learn how to use a rotary buffer? Are there classes or instruction videos and/or books that could be helpful. Thanks for the advice.

Actually that's an excellent question. As with most skilled handcraft activities, the subtleties of using a rotary are not necessarily obvious, intuitive or natural.

The very best way is to find somebody that's really good at it and have them teach you. Unfortunately, that's usually easier said than done.

Definitely get a copy of Meguiar's video.

If you have a vocational school near by that teaches auto refinishing they might teach rotary buffing as part of the program.

One classic suggestion is to go to body shops and junkyards and get scrap body panels to practice on. However you do it, practice, practice, practice before trying it on a car that you really, really don't want to make a mistake on.

All good advice from "the other pc", you can also watch our how-to video here,

      How to remove paint defects

The best way if you cannot find an experienced person to show you a few techniques is to watch the video and then find a car nobody cares about to practice on. Don't try to learn how to use the rotary buffer on a black Viper! (Or anything nice).
