  • Did my detail guy do a good job??

Hey fellas been along time since I posted! But I like to start off saying I own a 2012 race red mustang, along while ago I made the mistake of going to a dealership and having my car washed while having my car serviced. Damn... After the car came out service and it has swirls ALL over the place I wanted to kill someone lol, but the dealership tried to make right and detail the whole car and it just didn't get to where it was.. My car had zero swirls being brand new , I bought it in the sun so I knew that lmao..After that I have a detail guy who does my car (pretty good i say) but when I need him too, I told him what happened , he detailed my car but he didn't get the swirls out, maybe some but not all, the next day I saw the swirls; don't get me wrong it looked alot better but still there..So did he do a good job? When you detail the car aren't you suppose to get all swirls out so the car looks perfect again or is this wishful thinking lmao? I live in pa near Stroudsburg if anybody is close to me or knows a good shop let me know thanks guys!!!

If you're not happy with the end result, then no - he didn't deliver to your expectations. But expectation is the key word here. If your detail guy guarantees his work to your satisfaction, then take him up on his guarantee. The other side of the coin is realism and getting what you pay for. In order to remove the remaining swirls (possibly RIDs?), he may have to employ other methods and materials not originally included in your initial work order.

True, he said he did a 3 stage , cleaner , polish, wax, he only charged me 50$ really nice guy, I'm by not any means bashing him the car came out nice but not all the swirls came out so idunno if you detail a car that all the swirls should be removed. That's why I'm wondering if he did do a good job or not...I would attempt this on my car but I'm afraid lol, I do have color x , swirls x , ultimate compound, scratch x, spray wax, nxt 2.0, can he maybe use some of my products the next time? I will tell him tho this time I want all the swirls removed. Period.

You are asking a lot for $50 imo. Of course it depends entirely on the swirls, but I;m betting that they are moderately deep. You will have to talk to him, some swirls should be left in to avoid over thinning the clear coat. For example, if a scratch is 80% through the clear coat, it's better to leave it there and get the rest of the scratches out that are 10-20% of the CC rather than overthin the whole CC to only 20% of it's previous thickness. $50 is very cheap also, IIRC a few detailers on these forums have quoted charging anywhere from 9 to 12 dollars a square foot. Assuming that is about average, you would not even be able to get a car hood done for $50.

Dude i didnt tell him what to charge, i understand your point if i was complaining about the work he done, im not. Im saying in a regular detail is the swirls automatically removed when he/she does one, so im asking if my guy did the right job or not, could very well be cause i only spent little money maybe he had not went all in i very well understand. Like i said hes a great guy and by any means talking bad about the dude, i guess im asking is if i went else where would i get the same job done for a reasonable price if he had done a incorrect job..Also what do you do about painted rims? can you polish them?

A 'detail' can be anything you want it to be... could just be washing the car for some people.

It is hard to say what his goal was though. It sounds like you got an appropriate amount of work (perhaps even extra) for $50. But cant tell if he was trying to do $50 worth of work, or was trying to remove everything and couldnt, or thought he got them all, etc. All you could do is ask if you wanted to.

Yeah, painted rims can be treated like paint on the car.

If he didn't do any additional damage to the paint, then for $50 he did more than a good job. I don't even wash and wax for that price lol.

I think he did a good job for the price. Unless you told him you wanted the swirls out of the finish. Don't get me wrong if he noticed them he should have brought it up to you but 50 bucks is pretty cheap for a detailer to even touch a car. If your concerned about them call him back or just wait until.the wax wears off and take care of them then.

                  imo, yes.
aaaa, the golden rule "You get what you pay for"
This is the reason I write everything on the receipt that my customer and I agree on, and I get my customers signature on that so they can't come back and say something different.

For $50 bucks your expecting way to much.
I wash cars for more then that.
A true paint correction will take hours, even days, you'll have to pay for that service. I start at $260 for just a two step correction.

A "detail" as you put it doesn't mean anything until you put something in front of it ie: Express Detail, VIP Detail, Executive Detail, Full Correction Detail, Gas Station Detail, Hack Detail, ect....

If you are happy with the results vs dollars spent then you kinda answered your own question.
To determine whether your detailer did a good job is a loaded question. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It's what you think.
As others have mentioned my starting price for a 2 step correction starts around $260. My monthly maintenance detail for loyal customers is over $50. Beauty is in the eye if the beholder.

dang 260 damn lmao well then i dont expect it to come out lmao but like i said he did a good job i actually gave him 70$ cause i thought he charged to little, but thats another thing..Yeah i wasnt trying to make it loaded question lol i was just asking cause i dont know the ropes of a car buffing job..Like i said the guy is a good guy, i allready told him next time i get my car done i want all the swirls removed lol also i need the rims done...

Question, can i get the adapter for the drill and polish my own rims? I think it's 20 somthing in walmart? The list of products i have, which would be good for my rims? or do i need to buy something else?

yes, the Dyna Cone works great. I use NXT polish but any polish will work. Oh are they painted? Then go with a polish like Ultimate or the like.
                        Then use Break dust Barrier.

+1 on the dyna cone. It works great for polishing wheels. You're ride will be good to go in no time. You're definitely on the right forum to learn anything you want to know about the detailing art.
