  • Detailing white car

    Hi All,

I am from Australia and have a 2001 holden vx ss commodore. The car has been looked after but it's looking a bit dull as the years have gone by. Today I did a wash with some meguiars shampoo with a small amount of apc to really get it clean. I then clay bar the car and then re washed with Megs. I have noticed some staining stubborn dirt that the clay did not remove. Also the bonnet seemed to have a lot of fine scratches and some swirls. Have not noticed them previously. I am working by hand and planned to go over the whole car with ultimate compound. I also have ultimate wax to go on over the top. Should I also use ultimate polish even though the car is white would this extra step bring back some oils shine to the paint.

Admittedly the car looks way better just after the clay and wash what's the best way to remove this stubborn dirt and staining. Is color x or ultimate polish a good step or should I just uc the car then follow with the ultimate wax.

    Thanks

    Clarky

I would def. do UC then UP and then UW if you want to achieve optimum results

      Re: Detailing white car

Welcome mate! I also have a vx commodore, a v8 berlina wagon.

Anyway, it sounds like you are on the right track. Color x should do the job on stains, i have used it to remove stains and restore the colour on a white car before with success. However, it will not touch scratches and swirls. So if you want to remove those, you're gunna have to step up to UC. The UC may leave a little hazing (but probably wont be noticeable on a white car), in which case you can follow up with ultimate polish to refine the finish. Then simply add your fav wax, and your done.

Thanks Berlina. Your right the uc did leave some hazing pain to get rid of and didn't remove the Black brown stain from my paint. Me and uc have never gotten along. I have used color x before and it was good may give that a try on the stains good advice. Then should I follow up with ultimate polish then ultimate wax?

Is your stain just dark or tar, or more of a rust/brown color?

            Re: Detailing white car

Looks to be more brown in some spots looks like a black dirt. It's not tar just looks like a rust brown dirty color. Looks very deep under the surface. Two goes of the clay bar didn't budge it and the uc didn't either. This is really stopping me from getting a nice finish looks like more an off white color.

              Re: Detailing white car

Hmm.. white cars can show rust spots and tar more easily... but usually Uc would at least remove the rust for a moment....

I have been impressed with the TRIX, or TarX IronX type products... something to look up at least and consider, but may get another opinion first also.

Thanks murr. Good point I was considering today if I should try an iron x type product on my car certainly can't hurt to try it. Guess its worth a shot. I may pick some up give it a go.

                  Re: Detailing white car

Well, TRIX is both combined, so probably the best way to go if the same price there.

Yeah it's the same price here so just ordered some trix online. I'll try that out see how I go. Then I'll follow up with the color x and the ultimate polish then the ultimate wax after. Hopefully the trix will help certainly can't hurt. I'll post back the results. Thanks again Murr

Well, not saying it will for sure... The fact the the UC isnt doing anything (which also works on the surface) is a bit concerning.... but just an option

Have you tried something like Pre-Sol, 3M Adhesive Remover or Tarminator on the stain? I have good luck with 3M Adhesive Remover on paint stains, just be careful not to get it on any black plastic trim or rubber it will turn it white permanently.

No have not tried tarminator yet but that's definitely an option. Ill see how the iron x tar x combo goes if not I'll order the tarminator see how that goes. Hopefully report some good news back over the next few days.
