  • Opti- Coat 2

I know this is a meguiars fourm but as far as i know they don't make anything like this.

Anyway anyone with experence with this stuff?

I want to put it on my winter rims since i only spary them with the pressure washer during winter months and don't scrub them.

Will this stuff hold up and let the dirt just wash away?

    Opti-Coat rocks!!!! I'm coating 3 cars tomorrow.
It's one of the best, if not the best polymer bonded protect ant out there!
It drys harder then the paint on your car and will out last your car.
You'll never have to wax those rims again.
http://www.optimumcarcare.com/ go to their site and check them out. Also some good vids on the youtubie.

If it's just for your rims, have you thought about using Meguiars Brake Dust Barrier?

It does exactly what you described above..

Personally, I find this hard to believe.

You should also protect your paint along with your wheels. It cost more to repaint the car then the wheels.

Outlasting the car is quite an exaggeration. There are many people reporting protection still there after 2 years.

Opti Coat 2.0 is a great product and much easier to apply than its original version Opti Guard. It's recommended to prep the surface before application and clean it after compounding/ polishing (car wash, CarPro Eraser, etc).

You won't be able to chemically remove Opti Coat but it can be done mechanically (you could use your polisher with abrasive product). Some of my clients took their cars to car washes with brushes after Opti Coat treatment and this mechanical action caused its partial removal and even swirl marks have been seen on some panels. Touchless car washes are 100% safe as those chemicals won't remove coating.

Before putting Opti Coat on my wheels I washed them really well, clayed, used cleaner wax ColorX and sprayed with CarPro Eraser. IronX would be a good choice as well to prep between washing and claying. I can clean my wheels much faster now and they look good without any hard scrubbing. Before that brake dust was my biggest enemy, especially front wheels.

Brake Dust Barrier would be another solution, quicker to apply but lasting much shorter than Opti Coat.

As for durability of Optimum's permanent coating - it will eventually wear off. You could expect 5-7 years of protection (paint), depending on usage, that's what Dr. G stated during Detail Fest.

Meguiar's has M188 Deep Crystal Coating which is currently only available in Asia. It's meant to offer extra protection against harsh acid rains in that part of the world.

I've all ready washed my rims i even used Iron-x and i put a coat of a wax on them.

The main thing i'm looking for is to be able to go to the coin wash and be able to spray my rims clean during the winter months...if i can do that then i will buy it.

You'll be fine. You can't strip Opti Coat chemically.
Even just a bucket with car soap and a wheel brush will easily clean your rims after permanent coating is applied.

I used to wax my wheels as well but Opti Coat made my life so much easier.

Just read their website, it is like another coat of clear coat and no more waxing on the car. Hard to believe.

                            why?
You don't think this is possible?
Scientist are at work right now developing things you couldn't even imagine so why wouldn't this be possible?

anyways.... OC 2.0 is a cross polymer that is extremely hard and doesn't come off easily, (hence, harder then OEM clear coat) so application is extremely important.

                            Here's some info from them:
Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 is the most advanced polymer system that adds a permanent layer of clear coat over the automotive finishes.

Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 provides better scratch and mar resistance, better UV resistance, better chemical etch resistance, and has better release properties than factory clears. Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 therefore keeps your car clean longer and continues to bead water and sheds dirt for years.

Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 can be used to protect the following surfaces:

                            • Painted Surfaces
                            • headlights
                            • wheels <--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                            • plastic trim
                            • bumpers
                            • aluminum & chrome surfaces

No, personally I don't believe it. I'm sure OC 2.0 is a great product, but to say that it "will out last your car" is a big call IMO.

Those claims about its scratch, UV and chemical resistance may well have some truth, but to say it's going to outlast your car is, for me, hard to believe. All the reviews I have read about the product are saying it lasts 2-3 years - hardly the lifespan of an average car.

Also, what is being developed by scientists and what is actually on the market in the form of products such as OC 2.0 are two very different things.
