  • Help: Pecan Stains Under Clear Coat

    hey everyone,

i posted this under "washing by hand" and only received one reply. although helpful, i thought i'd seek additional opinions. so here is the same post. oh and if double posting is against forum rules or anything like then feel free to remove this thread.

so i had parked under a pecan tree and noticed a few brown stains on my bumper and hood from pecans falling onto the car (damn squirrels). the stains have faded a lot on the hood. however, the bumper seems to hold on to the stains a lot better and haven't changed in appearance since getting them about 2-3 weeks ago. i'm guessing it has something to do with it being plastic vs metal. anyways, i consulted the dealership about the stains, but they informed me that the stains have settled under the clear coat. is there anything i can do about this? or am i just SOL? would i be able to approach this with rubbing compound or something?

You could use Ultimate compound on the stains to see if you can get them out. Or you could try scratch x.

Re: Help: Pecan Stains Under Clear Coat

Often times the paint on the bumper and fascia's are different. Therefore, what may work on the body of the car, may not always work on the other painted surfaces. I would suggest using a clay bar first to see if you can lift or loosen the stain. I would then go right to Ulimate Compound and use it with a DA if possible. When using the Utlmate Compound, make sure you are working it until it just about disappears, wipe off excess and reapply, with each pass make sure you work it intto the stain until the product just about disappears. This may take a few passes as the stain has been left so long. If you are not using a DA, use the same method of applying the product, be patient, maybe 3-4 passes and you should see a difference. Good Luck!
