  • Lazy man's solution for waxing: what is quickest and easiest to apply?

I have never gotten myself to wax more than twice a year, and I'd say most of the time its less than that. I really would like to get more wax on the car (I live in the desert, we get a lot of sun, wind, and dirt, with just enough rain to get things muddy). My Turtle carnuba wax is about to give out, so before I buy more, I'd like to get the best for my situation.

I've thought about a soap-wax combo, but I'm hearing (in fact a few years ago a thread here I started on the topic) that the wax there just isn't that strong and protective of the paint. Is this still the case, or has a high-quality soap-wax come out since then, that does a decent job? Or, is there a very quick and easy wax that can be applied after the wash?

I found this: turtlewax.com/detail-1-Step Wax & Dry-42-49.aspx. Anyone had any luck with this?

Whenever you combine steps, you are going to lose a little something from them.

I would look at the Ultimate Quick Wax.

I always use it while drying, and seems to help my base coat of wax last a while.

If you wash often, and dry with that, you'll end up with better than nothing.

Generally I do a quick wipe to get most water, then go around with a second towel while misting the spray wax for the final wipe.

While wash & wax products have certainly developed in the past few years, they still are not a substitute for a proper wax application. That includes our own Ultimate Wash & Wax that uses a dispersed wax rather than the more commonly used soluble wax (ie dissolved wax) so commonly used in other such products. You may not get a lot of feedback here on the TW product as they tend to not be terribly popular around here - we certainly don't mind you discussing competitors products and there are a lot of very popular competing products discussed here, but the TW line tends to not be one of them. Oh, and we removed the clickable link since we don't allow those during a member's initial 30 posts.

Now, your idea here is basically sound; using a high quality spray wax can be a great way to boost your wax protection and maintain a high shine. Our Ultimate Quik Wax is primarily a synthetic product and is surprisingly durable. You can use it while drying the car following a wash, or use it immediately following washing and drying.

The UWW has a lot of good reviews on amazon. So i take it that this would be a nice halfway solution (if I'm not going to apply the regular wax regularly)--do the regular wax once a year or so, and then use this in between.

Anyone know how many applications I would get out of a bottle (I have a Honda Civic and a Toyota Sienna minivan)?

Honestly, I'd buy the Gold Class Soap and dry with a spray wax....

The UW&W is good, but if its your only wax, you would get a better coat of wax out of the spray.

Didn't realize that these are two different products.... OK what I looked up on amazon was the Ultimate Quick Wax. So you're saying that for my purposes, this would be better than the Ultimate Wash and Wax. Ok that makes sense, that lines up with Michael's statement, that even Mequiar's own Ultimate Wash and Wax aren't as good as applying a traditional wax by hand....

I'll be sure to look for the Ultimate Quik Wax.

That is also to say the spray wax isnt as good as a proper liquid/paste wax either... but those may be more work than you care for. And perhaps not as good, but used more often kind of evens out, and UQW is pretty good.

                Also...

If this will be your main coat of wax, so using it every time, you may prefer to buy in bulk and look at the D156 Synthetic Spray Wax.

Maybe buy one UQW bottle at first to try, and then save it to pour the bulk product into.

The D156 is a gallon container; the UQW is 15 oz.

About how many applications could I get out of either?

D156 goes a LONG way because you "MIST" it on, not spray like a detailer. I have done my car several times and my 37 ft motor home with 1 bottle. I lovel this product because it works great on the black plastic parts and all your glass windows and windshield too. It is sooo easy to use, you won't mind using it often.

Cant say I have counted... seems like a bunch.

Only doing a real light mist over everything. If you spray heavy, it will be more of a pain.

Imagine standing back and spraying a door... one full trigger pull, and letting the mist fall over the whole door. Thats all you would use on that door.
