  • Replacement for m205?

i got my car repainted, it has some orange peel, so after 1month, i wetsanded, then compound with wool pad and m105, it still has some swirl marks left by m105, i have all the pads and m83 and m80 what should be a good replacement for m205 to do the next step? thank you

I wouldn't call M80 a replacement for M205 however I absolutely love using M80. Keep in mind it's a DAT product and contains lots of oils. I wouldn't hesitate to use it along with a polishing pad to remove any remaining swirls.

You might want to use M105 and a compound pad or a finishing pad. I am not sure why a replacement for M205, to answer your question, I would think Ultimate polish, or scratch X.

Great point!! M105 with a foam cutting pad or even a polishing pad will be more aggressive than m80 or m83. And a great way to follow up after cutting with wool. Just wanted to add m83 is a cleaner polish where as m80 is more of a glaze with much less cleaning ability but richer with oils.

New paint will be softer... May need some test spots to see if it is just the #105 itself leaving some marks. If so, then #80 or 83 should do the trick.

If it is still deeper marks to remove, then you may need more #105.

Wool is a agressive pad, If you were to use the foam pad with m105 and then Up you may save some time and a better end look.

The aggressive compounding step, regardless of liquid and pad used, will almost always leave some degree of rotary swirl. That initial compound step after wet sanding is never going to be your last step - you always want to do a finishing polish at least, unless you need an intermediate step due to poor technique or product/pad selection in the compounding stage.

M105 and a high quality wool pad, coupled with really good technique, will usually leave only very mild buffer swirls. If this is what you've got now, then using a polishing pad with M80 at 1000 to 1400 rpm, depending on how the paint responds, should give you the result you're looking for. Keep on the slow end of that range if you can, and keep the pad as flat as possible against the paint, using very light pressure, and slow, steady arm movement. Take your time here as you're really trying to refine the surface as much as possible.

Is it safe to wax it after i do the polishing step? it's been 1 month since repainted, and 2 weeks now since i did the sanding and compound step.

Without better guidance from the painters, 2 months would be the average wait time.

Orange peel is your clear coat. Why would you want to remove this? I know orange peel looks weird but it protects your paint.

                          Re: Replacement for m205?

this are the final results for the civic i got repainted.

the side panel is already sanded and total polished, the door and mirror aren't.

this is a night view of the hood.

                          a direct light on it.

                          swirl free.

                          day view

on this now i need some advice to remove that "white" stuff on trims, i let the compound sit for about 2 weaks and now i need some advice to remove that compound (m105)

                          the roof

door, and side was painted too (i had some very good scratches made by a key ), i have very nice reflections on top

by the way, the repainted parts were:
                          front bumper
                          hood
sides of hood (don't know the english word for it)
                          doors and side
                          top

the cost was: $4500 mexican peso, about $450 U.S. Dollar.
