By chance of running the risk of sounding like a moron, are all micro fiber towels the same or are some better then others and if so how can you tell the difference, any help, thank you in advance.

There is a difference between quality MF and some low end MF. I concider Meguiars supreme MF to be the best and only use those towels for the paint of vehicles. Other towels like from AutoZone or Wally World or any other place are used for other jobs as I detail like interiors, door jams, wheels, ect.
I use the small Target ones for my glass, interior, etc.
As a side note, you mentioned different quality, but there is also different design.
The waffle weave type are better for drying, the plush ones better for product removal. There are ones 'designed' for glass, but I never cared for them. And then other types, or variations.
Meguiar's supreme shine microfibers are great for compound and polish removal as well as wax/sealant removal and quick detail sprays and claying. They are also a great interior and glass towel as well if you have an ample supply to dedicate some for exterior and some for interior as to not cross contaminate towels with residuals from different products. For example I don't want a microfiber I've used to apply dressing or glass cleaner to become a compound/polish/wax removal towel or vice versa, at a later time even after washing.
Moral of the story, Meguiar's supreme shine microfiber towels are a great multipurpose microfiber so stock up!
