  • Microfiber and delicate paint....

After laying down some lacquer (base and clear, both lacquer) I worked it with some UC and overall it came out great, but when wiping the residue with a microfiber I noticed the towel was leaving some tiny scratches, then I looked closer and it seemed almost like they were tiny fibers (think the thickness of peach fuzz, but longer). I noticed one of my other MF towels wasn't doing this. Of course lacquer is very delicate and but I've never seen this before, sort of like scratches but sort of like fibers. I couldn't even manage to take a photo. Any ideas?

I was thinking maybe with some paints it's a better idea to use those 'polishing' towels that are a tighter and thinner but ultra soft fabric common with one if Meguiars' competitors products.

are you asking a question or just stating something?

Both. I was asking for INSIGHT into what I'm seeing. That's why I said, "Any ideas?"

Uhh, what does being a good photographer have to do with it? The photos did not show what I was talking about, it's that simple. Again, I was asking for INSIGHT into what I saw, If you don't understand what I'm saying, feel free to let someone else comment.

first off don't get all upset. I am trying to help.
Your not asking questions your just stating what you saw a then said you couldn't take a pic of it and then asked any ideas. so it looks like you asking about taking pics.

"...I noticed the towel was leaving some tiny scratches...."
then the towel is leaving scratches. this does happen

" ...then I looked closer and it seemed almost like they were tiny fibers...."
Yes mf's will leave fibers behind, get some new ones.

            >>>>>>"I noticed one of my other MF towels wasn't doing this"
            Problem solved,

"...Of course lacquer is very delicate and but I've never seen this before, sort of like scratches but sort of like fibers....."
um ok, so your seeing scratches and fibers?

"...I couldn't even manage to take a photo. Any ideas? "
use the macro setting and you can take very close pics of very small/macro stuff

"....I was thinking maybe with some paints it's a better idea to use those 'polishing' towels that are a tighter and thinner but ultra soft fabric common with one if Meguiars' competitors products"
Meg's has Ultimate wipes so maybe you can try those.

              Re: Microfiber and delicate paint....

Lol, I'm not upset and I'm not asking about photography. I know you we're trying to help, except that you weren't. I know one of the towels was a problem and I know I can buy other products. What I was referring to by 'INSIGHT' was: Has someone else noticed the same thing with lacquers? Are lacquers the issue? Are cheap microfibers to blame? Their materials? Have you seen some microfibers release tiny fibers or are these really tiny scratches? Etc.

              Thanks anyway.

              Anyone else?

                Re: Microfiber and delicate paint....

yes some mf's release fibers and I throw those ones away if I see any release of fibers.
                was the paint completely dry/cured?
and if the mf's are scratching usually it's an older towel or just a bad batch.
You have to adjust your products/tools/techniques to the job. All paints are different even on the same car.
