  • Nxt Paste applied using PC and buffing pad??

My bottle of Nxt wax is almost empty. So I'm wondering if I should get the liquid again or try the Nxt Paste.

If I get the Nxt Paste wax, can I use still use the PC and a finishing/buffing pad (Sonus grey) to apply ? or should I use something else ?

And what should I use to prime the pad for the Nxt paste? (I learned from this forum that the pad needs to be primed when applying the liquid nxt).

Just as an update, I applied the 2nd coat of Nxt last night on my GTI and it looks very wet (tires dressed with Insane Shine)

You can apply the paste by machine, but the benefit to a liquid is it's easier to apply by machine because you can pour some wax out directly onto the pad. With a paste, you will have to scoop some out and spread it onto the face of your pad. I've tipped my pad into the can and then blipped the on/off switch which worked just okay to place some paste wax onto the pad, but liquids are always easier to apply by machine than paste waxes. Typically, one of the characteristics about a paste wax is that it attracts people that enjoy applying their wax by hand.

And what should I use to prime the pad for the NXT paste? (I learned from this forum that the pad needs to be primed when applying the liquid NXT).
Where did you learn that a foam buffing pad needs to be primed before using a Meguiar's wax?

I've never recommended this and I don't remember reading it from another member. I've seen this as a question before, but the answer is "No, you do not need to prime a pad with any other liquid before using a Meguiar's wax", you can prime *New* pads, (that are dry), before using our Compounds, Paint Cleaners and even Cleaner/Polishes, but you don't have to.

Priming a pad with a quick detailer or water acts to adulterate the wax, there is no reason to do this and Meguiar's doesn't recommend it.

    It does look good!

I used my PC with the NXT paste a couple weeks ago.... put on a rubber glove on my left hand... poped the wax out of the container and held it against the pad for a moment while it was turning. Worked well, although it's easy to get TO much product on your pad this way. Got to be careful to go easy.... other than that, works like a charm. Just my .02

If you're going to apply NXT by PC most of the time, then it would probably be a better idea to stick to the liquid.
It's easier to put on a pad and you'll know exactly how much is on the pad as well.
I've never primed a pad for NXT, all I do is make sure it's clean, but I don't see why you shouldn't if that's what you prefer.

          thanks for everyone's input.

I was commenting on another thread that the pad soaks up quite a bit of Nxt liquid. And someone commented that I should prime the pad so it won't soak up too much product.

I was thinking of using the paste because I suppose the pad can't 'soak' up too much paste vs. the liquid.

My pad has quite a bit of nxt liquid now and it feels heavier. Though sometimes, I press it on the panels to squeeze out some.

          does everyone have this issue??

            yogibear458,

            First, your ride looks excellent!

Now, here's what I would do... especially if you want to try the paste wax.

I would get "both" the liquid and paste NXT. I would apply the first coat with a PC using the liquid. Then, I would apply the second coat by hand using the paste.

NXT has a tiny amount of cleaning ability. When you use it with a PC, it's going to "clean" just a bit more... and that's a good thing. By not using the PC with the second coat, you might not be disturbing as much of the first coat.

            Just my two cents.
