  • Professional Paint JOB Question?????

MY brother will be getting a professoinal paint job done on his old honda accord no more then 8 yrs old. The Gentleman at the paint shop told him to wait 2 weeks before waxing his vehicle. Is this true??

Just want to confirm with you guys.

I plan on using a DA polisher

Will it be safe to polish it will yellow pad as well as clay it ?

2 weeks sounds a little short.. how professional is it? Baking the paint on at all?

    Claying and cleaning/polishing is fine.

We always recommend waiting 60 to 90 days before waxing a repaint, but the guy at the body shop should know his paint and have specific recommendations from his paint supplier. If he says 2 weeks he must have a reason.

Fresh paint needs to breathe as it is curing . If you wax to soon you seal the paint , not allowing the solvents to evorporate . This could lead to premature paint problems . Even if the paint was baked , I would not wax in 2 weeks . I always told my customers you may wax in 60 days IF the tempurture has been 70 or above .

How long should you wait before using UC or UP?

Does using UC or UP during curing time effect overall cure time?

Really. I would have thought you would absolutely destroy a fresh paint job using UC too soon. Just don't use a wax/sealant for a couple months then, huh?

Well, if UC is needed is another story....

But remember #105 is designed for fresh paint.

Good to know. I have a buddy that just got his trunk repainted and the rest of the car is swirled up pretty good. Maybe just a good once-over with some UP on the trunk will be all that is needed. I was going to wait till late November to do it so it should be safe to wax it by then I'm guessing
