    Re: White Paint Woes

Theres a product called Beyond Clay. Liquid based and developed for buffers. Claims to be as good as a clay bar.

Its a little hard to judge on here of course.

But I know before I clayed, I knew what a smooth surface was from years of waxing my dads cars. Then I tried claying for the heck of it, and found out what smooth paint was.

So just a grain of salt, but maybe it is smooth, maybe not.

As noted above, if used with a little common sense (lots of lube, dont drop it)... clay really solves many issues in the easiest manner possible. It is kind of hard to say something is really stuck to the paint if a mild clay hasnt been tried.

And claying by machine wont be as gentle... so more chance of damage.

Or is it more like a compound?

Ok. Im sold though my shoulders wont be. Hopefully Wally World still has a kit in stock. Oh one more question. I probably wont have time to wax immediately afterwards but I do have quick wax to use until I can. From what I remember waxing is needed after claying

            Re: White Paint Woes

Claying is easier than waxing... just dont drop it.

Well, depending on what you feel like, you could clay everything... then wash and cleaner/wax next time. Or clay and cleaner/wax a panel at a time. Up to you....

            Clay
            Cleaner/Wax
            Wax

is a good quick detail. At least quick for us around here..

Break off smaller pieces so you dont waste a lot if you do... and put some cardboard/sheet/etc down to work over.

Well, thats the lubricant. Buy an extra bottle if you like. You'll probably use more lube than clay, so the bars will last a while.

You can always start on the roof.. not the middle of the hood...

Well .... Didn't see the last post until now. So I did start on the hood but on the edge. I had finished the roof ... painfully but it was finished earlier yesterday. The difference is dramatic between the hood center and right edge that I completed today in about 45 minutes. Clay seems to work like an eraser. Stains were stubborn in some areas and lifted easily in others. Relative to depth of the stain I would think. As expected, I dropped my first piece of clay. So I broke off a smaller second piece to finish that section. Now I have 2 nicks to deal with that I couldnt see before. Theyre deep so I'll have to use touch up on them after Scratch X or Ultimate Compound. I tried to insert a photo but its not working.

Well, sounds like a start... Although still a bit more effort than expected.

Could be where the TRIX could help, but progress is good.

The hood is the worst. Once its done I think progress will be better. Some of it is being over cautious with the product at first I think too. Learning the balance on the lubricant verses clay. I did better than I expected with it.
