Mixing Waxes

Has anyone mixed (not layered) Gold Class Plus paste with 26 paste? I have a 1/2 can of each and since they seem like the same family so to speak, the outcome should be ok.

Maybe I'll mix a tablespoon of each in dish of some kind and stir it up.

I'm also wondering how would 16 mix with NXT 2 (stirred up in the same can)? Maybe this will be the another Ultimate

Mixing of waxes has been done before and while there's nothing at all wrong with experimenting this way, it's doubtful that you'll stumble upon some truly amazing, new and unique formulation. But you shouldn't create any problems, either. Chris Dasher (AKA PorscheGuy997) even did a write up a few years back on his experience of combining M16 and M26 - check it out.

I like cooking but I won't be using the stove for my mixture.

Since the Gold Class and 26 are already the same consistency they should mix well as they are.

I'd just like to combine a couple of tins so I might be able to use them up in my lifetime, I've had my 16 for about 30 years I think when the cans were 15oz.

Notice they don't even say Meguiar's

Talk about a blast from the past!

First things first, I would take a small portion of your M16 wax out of the tin and set it aside. M16 isn't easy to find, especially in that older style tin.

Back when I was messing around with mixing waxes, I tried to only mix like products. For example, mixing a paste wax with a liquid wax never really worked out. That being said, I just don't know how GC or NXT 2.0 would work with M16. My gut instinct tells me that mixing M16 with NXT 2.0 would probably not work too well. But at the same time, we just don't know.

As far as the ratio of waxes, adding a small ratio of M26, GC or any other wax to M16 will probably not change much.

Depending on your batch, M16 varies in consistency based on the solvent levels. I particularly like my M16 to be on the hard side. If yours is fairly soft, you can place the tin on a double boiler setup and evaporate some of the solvents. Unless you want your place smelling like crayons, I suggest you do it outside (I placed a cake pan filled with water on my grill and placed the tin in that to get rid of some of the solvent).

Seem a shame to use up that nice old tin of M16 for mixing purposes!

Some people would pay decent coin for that..

I think I'll leave the 16 as is. Maybe 26 and Gold Class too. The NXT2 is the one that doesn't have that Carnauba Shine I like, maybe I'll give it away.
