Care of wood on a woodie

I did a search in this and other threads and it would appear that no one has asked about the care of wood on a woodie for over 6 years. Meguguiar's has introduced many new products since then so I thought i would raise the issue again.

I have a '47 Mercury woodie with perfect original restored wood. I want to keep it that way. I have been told to do nothing more than wipe it down with a wet towel. Given all the steps I take with the paint on the car and given that the wood is arguably more important on a woodie, I feel like I should be doing more.

Are there current Meguiar's products that I can/should use for cleaning and maintaining wood on a woodie?

Good question.
If the wood has a varnish on it then there's pretty much nothing you can do but put some wax on it.
If it's bare then put some varnish or linseed oil or the like.
that's all I got, oh, maybe contact a Woodie Car Club. I think they would have some answers for you too.

Can you shoot us a picture of the '47 Merc?

Our Quality Assurance Manager has a '51 Ford woody and a '46 Ford woody, and Barry Meguiar has a '40 Ford woody so we've got some experience with them around here! In speaking with our QA Manager he recommends any of our quick detailers for routine wipe downs just like you would with the paint, otherwise stick with a carnauba wax like our Gold Class or M26, or just use a pure polish on it like our M07 or Deep Crystal Polish. The typical finish of choice is a varnish that seals all the pores of the wood for protection, but there comes a time when that varnish needs to be redone. A carnauba is just easier to ensure complete removal of when that happens, so he suggests staying away from synthetic sealants on the varnished wood.
